The Huchappayya Temple is situated towards the west of Aihole Village and to the south of the Aihole Fort, on the way to River Malaprabha. The temple dates back to the 8th century AD. It is inclusive of a mukha mantapa, a sanctum, a tower or shikhara over the sanctum, a hall, ‘trimurti’ figures on the ceiling and an inscription from the 12th century. The interior of the temple is laid with intricate carvings and a number of big square pillars are situated in the hall and in front of the temple. An image of Nataraja is carved into the ceiling and some of the pillars have carved figures of couples.
