I was a splendid experience. We (hubby, bro, his fiance and I) stayed in the Monk-Tents at Kalpa for two nights. The sight of the Kinnaur Kailash, Parvati and Raldang peak was breathtaking. Mr. Madan Singh Rawat our host/ caretaker/ trekking guide and award winning cook is a gem of a person. The picturesque view was so complemented by Mr. Rawat hospitality. We woke up by 5am to have a clear view of Kinner Kailash. We started for a trek to Chaka peak in the morning led by him. He carried delicious food to keep our physical energy in-tact. We were back from the spectacular but extremely tiring trek and surrendered to tent for couple of hours. By that time an awesome full course meal soup, Dale fry, potato gobi, chicken curry, rice, two types of Roti and kheer were ready by the bonfire. We were flattered when we found buckets of warm water and herbal oil ready to pamper our feet and legs. The tents were so well maintained in such a remote place that I would rate it higher than a 5 star hotel anywhere. Negi owner of the property is also a very warm and delightful person. The Monk tent Kalpa under Mr. Rawat supervision made sure that we cherish this experience forever.
The best possible stay in Kalpa (Kinnaur) is The Monk. The location, the tents, the scenery, the staff, their services, their food, the bonfire and last but not the least it's godfather - Rawat Ji. All of this deserves 5 star without any doubt. Kinner Kailash range is clearly visible from their tents so you get a breathtaking view whenever you sit outside your camp. Be it morning, noon or evening, every time you look around this place is full of serene natural beauty. Sunrise and sunset from this place is the best view you can have. I planned one night halt at this place during my trip but I extended it to 3 nights because of all the factors listed above. Rawat ji and Suresh (staff members) are so nice that you will hardly make your mind to leave the place early. About their service, its fast and up to the mark. Unlike other hotels, the food that you get here is simply yum and you will find the home kitchen taste in every bite. Nothing jazzy, in fact i think they don't have a food menu. Rawat ji will discuss, in person, about the food with the guest before preparing it. The best part is, he will suggest such dishes that you will hardly reject. Don't miss his apple paratha and apple curry, its out of this world. Similarly, do taste their herbal tea and masala tea. It's damn good. One more interesting thing about this place is that they have so many fruits and other plants in their campus. Apple, Chilgoza pine, walnut, peach etc to name some of them. I was surprised when, after my trip, I received a call from Rawat Ji. He called me to check if I have reached back safely. Where else will you get this kind of treatment. Lastly, I can say that this place will definitely take your trip from better to best. Thanks Rawat Ji & Suresh for such a lovely stay. Will look forward to see you guys soon.
The accommodation was lovely during the stay at this hotel. Though the hotel location was perfect, but the accessibility to this hotel was very inconvenient due to its location on the uphill side. Hotel appearance was good. The rooms were spacious and clean. The basic room amenities were all in good functioning conditions. They catered Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian good food which tasty. Some activities would have been provided, but did not notice as our visit was during the rainy season. Amongst outdoor activity like tracking was open to the interested customers.
The Monk Kalpa is one of the prime properties of Michael Pradesh. Located opposite to snow laden shining picturesque Kinner Kailash and at the height of 2800 mts, Monk gives true experience of nature at its best . . Location and facilities are great at the Monk and staff is quite helpful. Food is very tasty and gives true local flavour. Apple curry, apple parota and Kinnauri rajma makes our taste buds to experience altogether a new natural flavour Surrounded by apple orchards and green mountains, the Monk is an ideal place to relax in natures lap. For adventurers, open trek on near by small peaks is an added advantage Overall, the Monk Kalpa was an awesome experience and one the best in Michael Pradesh.
I was joining a bigger group that was exploring the Kalpa-Kinnaur region of the Himalayas. I was a few days late in joining them and thus had to make the journey from Mumbai alone to Kalpa. From the minute I was in Delhi, to the minute I reached the resort The Monk, Gopaliji, one of the people who owns the resort, was constantly available to me and guiding me through the journey, that was Split in 3 days. Not once did I feel like I was in an unknown land not knowing where I was headed. And that experience was only topped by being welcomed to a beautiful resort, The Monk The bigger group was returning when I reached the resort, so I warmed myself in the kitchen with a cup of chai. The person who worked there, was so gracious and he kept me company till the group joined. It was the apple season when I visited and we had the most delicious apple curry, that I could not even imagine was a dish. Later at night, after warming ourselves in the bonfire, we retired to our tents. They were extremely spacious and laid with thick blankets. Each tent has a bathroom attached which was very surprising. There were a couple of rooms also, that some of the group occupied but I did not imagine tents to be so luxurious, in a sense, in their provision of facilities. And then I got up, the next morning, to the most beautiful Kinnaur Kailash, looming up with it's snow peaks! It really was inspiring. We took a walk with the person who worked there, who also doubled up as the guide of the hills. We did a day long outing of bird watching and climbing and discovering the hills to come back to a hot lunch At the end of our trip, I was blown away by hospitality, and how the people of Himachal, altogether I felt, were people of a different race. From the silent acceptance that traffic jams happen for a few hours at times, to the people who are warm strangers on the bus inquiring about you, and not to forget the apple dishes, and the effort to make us comfortable in such cold weather, I had a wonderful experience. I was expecting to rough it out and have a harder trip, but this was truly an experience I cherish for the people who run the place who put all the effort to make the group have a treasured experience. Thank you The Monk! I hope to come back soon!
