The Tripura Government State Museum Overview

The Tripura Government State Museum, built in the year 1970, has a large collection of artifacts recovered from excavation sites around Tripura that portray the dying art and culture of Tripura.
The museum has four galleries showcasing various categories like archaeology, painting, Indian sculpture and tribal culture.
The varied collection includes coins, sculptures, terracotta, copper inscriptions, textiles, bronze images, stone inscriptions, oil paintings, sketches, jewelry and drawings belonging to different centuries. The reference library within the museum has a variety of books and manuscripts related to archaeology, architecture and history of Tripura. The museum has an exquisite collection of sculptures depicting both Hindu and Buddhist styles mostly dating back to 9th century and onwards. Some of the unique ornaments, musical instruments and garments used by ethnic tribes are displayed by life size models.
The museum remains open on all days, except Sunday and public holidays, from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm. The entrance fee for a person is INR 2.
A visit to the museum is an excellent opportunity for students, research scholars as well as tourists to enlighten themselves about the culture and history of Tripura.
Situated in the heart of the city near Post Office Circle, this museum is easy to get to.

Good historical site

This place will give you lot of information about tripura and other north eastern state. They will show you different cultures existing in north eastern parts. Their flora and fauna. This place is must visit.

Good place for short trip

Tripura Ujjayanta Palace or Tripura State Meuseum is a good Palace to see. Basically if you are reaching Agartala by noon you can afford it visit the same day. There is a entry fee (as on 20. 11. 2016) of Rs. 15 per indian citizen and 150 INR for forgeiners. Mainly the culture of Tripura and North East India is displayed here. It takes all around 1-2Hours to visit.
