The presiding deity of Thiruchendur Murugan Kovil is known by the names Senthilandavar or Shanmugar or Arumuga Nayinar.  The temple also has shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. It is believed that the temple existed since the Vedic period, as it is mentioned in many ancient literatures. The temple was renovated in the year 1941, retaining the original sanctum sanctorum and Maha-mandapam.

The temple is famous for its towering nine tiered Gopuram or the main entrance. There is also a Nazhikkinaru on the temple premises, which is a sacred well constructed around a fresh water spring.

Senthilandavar of Thiruchendur Murugan Kovil faces the east though the temple entrance is in the South. Thiruchendur Murugan Kovil is also the only Murugan temple situated on the sea shore, the others being located on hill tops and in forest lands.

Celebrations like Brahmothsavam, Vasanthothsavam, Visaka Visakam, Skandha Sashti, Aavanipperunthirunaal and Maasipperunthirunaal and Oonjal Sevai attracts hordes to pilgrims to Thiruchendur.

A quiet divine place

Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple, Thiruchendur. This Temple, an ancient Hindu temple, dedicated to Lord Murugan is situated in Tiruchendur, Tamil Nadu, India. Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple in Tiruchendur is known as the second Arubadai Veedu of Lord Murugan. It is located in the district of Tuticorin, It is about 40 km from Tuticorin. Temple is open from 5 AM to 9 pm.A very divine, quiet and pious place and you get lots positive energy here. The architecture is so very wonderful and awe striking. The temple is also well maintained and clean. However, the temple administration must take notice of the way the commercialization of darshan procedure which is ruining the divinity of the place. Everywhere the agents try to fleece you with promises of a darshan from very near the deity. The temple administration must arrange for a proper crowd Management so that all devotees have quick and good darshan. Corruption/fraud is so brazenly open - the agents collect the admission fees and take the devotees for darshan without paying the full collected fees.

Clout surrounded temple

We went for special darshan to have darshan as close as possible. But there was no tkt issued rather tkt counter was closed (6-30hrs on17-11-16)We are forced to pay Rs 250 each to the so called clout without any receipt and of course we had a good darshan. But the way we had is absolutely illegal and I feel ashamed that I have also become a part of this kind of illegal activities that too inside the temple. It is really surprising that it has been allowed that too in a such a big and famous temple. It is as though Iam entering corrupted govt office. And satishMobile 9445106837

Good hotel and friendly reviews

Hotel was booked solid, but we got our reservation in just in time. The catch was we (2rooms) were just below the gym. Thankfully they were able to switch us to new rooms as guests checked out. The breakfast was better than I remembered, with fresh berries and even granola. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout the stay. Thank you!
