Thusharagiri Waterfalls Overview

Ranked 5 of 8 sightseeing in Coastal Malabar

Thusharagiri Waterfalls, situated in the Western Ghats, is thronged by several tourists. Two streams, originating at the Western Ghats, meet here to form the Chalippuzha River. The name of the attraction, Tusharagiri, means snowy spray. The attraction was named so because of the snowy spray created by the Chalippuzha River when it diverges into the three waterfalls. Thenpara is the highest waterfall that falls from an altitude of 75 m.

It is located at around 45 km from Calicut and has a crocodile farm run by the forest department. Moreover, this waterfall is located at Kodencherry in Kozhikode District and is known as trekkers' paradise. Trekkers coming to this place can start trekking early in the morning, covering the places with plantations of pepper, rubber, areca nut, ginger and various other spices.

Besides these plantations, trekkers can trek through the dense evergreen forests with exotic birds and animals and thereafter head towards Vythiri and Wayanad Districts by evening.

Waterfalls gives the feel of viewing snow-capped mountain

Thusharagiri Waterfalls is situated in the Kozhikode district, Kerala. It is around 50 kms away from Kozhikode Railway station. The road up to the destination is in good condition. The name Thusharagiri means snow capped mountain which got its name from the snow like aura generated by the waterfall. It is easy to access the first series of waterfalls and it offers a beautiful view of gallons of water splashing down ferociously. If you are more adventurous, you can venture out on a trekking trip to the other waterfalls also which are hidden inside the forest (prior permission may be necessary). The trekking trip will lead you all the way to Wayanad. Thusharagiri was quite unknown to the outer world when I first visited there around 5 years ago. But it is acquiring tremendous public attention these days and the place is getting overcrowded sometimes. Still it is not too late. If you want to feel nature untouched by man' s hands this is the right place to visit.
