Tipu Sultan Palace Overview

Ranked 43 of 489 sightseeing in Bangalore

Tipu Sultan Palace, built between 1781 and 1791, is identical to the Daria Daulat which is another palace of Tipu Sultan. Emperor referred to it as the 'Rash-e-Jannat', meaning abode of happiness and envy of heaven.

Commissioned by Hyder Ali, the construction was completed under the reigns of Tipu Sultan. Located near the fort, this beautiful palace has been converted into a museum, which gives visitors insight into the life of the emperor. Museum is maintained and managed by the Archaeological Survey of India.

The double-storey structure comprises flowery wooden artwork adoring the columns, curves and balconies. Visitors can even stroll in the gardens, on both sides of the palace. The garden in the palace premises encompasses wonderfully cusped rosewood arches, fluted stone pillars and frescos. Tourists can visit this palace year-round, except for Sundays when the museum remains closed.

An awesome trip

It's most beautiful place with more and more nature like gardens, old palaces, Museums, etc. The climate is very cook and chill. Nice place. But there are traffic problems.

Nothing to see except name

There is nothing to see in that pace except the place was named after the great warrior Tipu Sultan. I think it's just a old building and they are naming it after him for just looting tourists.

Must visit place in Mysore

Very cool and calm and a very well known historical place which is still maintained in its real structure and real paintings. Family place and no place for crime and violence. Very well maintained locality and far from hassle free traffic.

In dire need of protection

The structure is in dire need of protection from people itching to scratch their pathetic name & love affairs on the walls of this protected monument. The structure is poorly maintained. More attention/spending is on the lawns. Visit only if you have nothing better to do. Time required from MG road is 30 minutes. You are done seeing the "Palace" (? ) in 10 minutes. Its more like a 6 room Bungalow than a palace.

Tipu Sultan's summer palace

I went to this place in Jan 2016. The entry is free. It is situated in core of the city. Market area, it will be easier to reach over there. The visit was below my expectations, Only one security person was available over there. You can capture maximum 15-20 Photographs. 30 minutes maximum time required to explore this place. Only big walls, garden and peaceful area. Nothing interesting at all, but cleanliness was superb.

Nice place

The trip duration is maximum half an hour. You can visit it along with other attractions in the area like the Bull temple, Ramakrishna Math and Gavi Gangadhareshwara temple. Parking is definitely a problem in here. There is a beautiful small garden overlooking the Tipu Sultan Palace. Not much to see other than this.

Good for a quick visit

Located very close to the KR Market, right in the middle of Bangalore's hustle bustle, is this palace - Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace. It is a small palace, but with a fair bit of history written on the wall plaques. Some of Tipu's administrative thoughts, rockets he used in wars and a replica of his famous tiger-attacking-Britisher toy are on display. Overall, a good place for quick dip into history.

Good for a short visit

Tipu Sultan Palace visit is for short duration visit (< 1 hour). Nothing much to offer, it is just additional administration unit of Tipu Sultan (apart from in Mysore).
