Van Vihar National Park Overview

Ranked 4 of 125 sightseeing in Bhopal

Van Vihar National Park, situated in the heart of the city, is an oasis of greenery spread across an area of 445 hectares. More of a zoo, this site houses a variety of animals that are orphaned, brought from other parts of the state or exchanges from other zoos. A natural habitat housing both herbivores and carnivores, Van Vihar was declared a national park in 1983. However, it has been developed and managed as a modern zoological park.

One of its kind, this national park allows herbivores to roam freely while the carnivores are kept inside enclosed areas bounded by trenches and walls in order to prevent poaching. Captives at this national park like tiger, panther, lion and more   are fed on mutton. Free ranging animals like chital, sambar, black buck and blue bull feed on the grass and other plant species growing in Van Vihar.

Besides herbivores and captives, the national park is also home to animals belonging to endangered species. The wilderness of the park also makes an ideal place for avian fauna, which comprises over 200 species of birds migrating to the park during the winter season. This national park is also the abode of variety of butterflies and insects. Van Vihar National Park is maintained and administered by Forest Department of Madhya Pradesh.

Must visit place

Must have visited more than 10 times. Awesome place for nature lovers. At one side is the lake, while on the other side is the park with animals in almost open space. The best way to explore the park is by your two-wheeler or bicycles. Bicycles you can get at the entrance at the nominal fee. Also, it is not opened on Friday and on Sunday at around 4 there is an informative show on snakes by Mr Saleem. If you want to see Tigers, Lions and Leopards best time is to visit around 11 or 4 PM when the food is being given to them, else either you won't find them or they would be sleeping. Do not forget to bring your camera.

This place is a forest inside and a zoo at perimeter of forest, designed with natural forest atmosphere for animals.Along the length of zoo you have you have a straight road that can be covered by vehicles or the cycles available for rent at its office. The zoo is setup at a stretch of 4 kms.Its better to use cycle as you can enjoy the uninterrupted view while exploring zoo at your left and upper lake at your right thought. There is a jungle safari at 7 am everydayFriday the park is closed

An open zoo.

An open zoo, with status of a National Park. Its in 4. 5 area, on the banks of big lake. You need to have some vehicle to visit it. A bicycle, a two wheeler, or car. There is quite hefty fee for car entry. The enclosures of tiger, lion are too big to find the animals, but aviary, deer park, and reptile parks are good.

Don't visit, no animals to see, only names are written

There are very less animals to see entry fees is 545 for car entry and it's only waste of time to visit there it's only 1 leopard which you can see easily and a bear nothing else is so visible so don't waste time going there just on your discovery channel and see.

Close to nature

Visited Vanvihar on sunny day. Could not see much animals but saw lion, leopard, bear and lots of exotic species of snakes. Van Vihar covers a vast area and car is allowed to enter in national park however it is difficult to see all animals but by patience can enjoy trip to van Vihar in Bhopal.

Go for the 'tiger'

Van Vihar is located on the banks of Upper Lake and has almost all kind of reptiles and animals. It has some nominal entry fees and you can see live animals in their natural surroundings off course well barricaded from Public. The trick is that you follow the food van around 4 pm that distributes food to these animals. The possibility of seeing animals and reptiles is max during this time.White Tiger, Deer, Bear, Lion, Crocodiles, Snakes, Alligators, Monkeys, rain dear, etc
