Velavan Temple Overview

Ranked 2 of 17 sightseeing in Yelagiri Hills

Velvan Temple has been dedicated to Lord Murugan. The temple acts as a viewpoint for viewing large plains lying beneath the top of the mountain, on which it is located. At the top of the mountain, temple bells are placed. All religious festivals like Shivratri are celebrated at this temple. Frequent celebrations take place at the temple between the months of July and August.

Situated on one of the highest peaks of the Yelagiri Hills, the temple has a rare statue of Gadothgajan, the son of Mahabharat Bheema, at its entrance. Highlight of the temple is the statue of Lord Murugan and Valli in the form of Kuravan and Kurathi, which cannot be seen in any other temple. Two shrines, one dedicated to Lord Ganesha and the next for Lord Murugan with Valli and Devasena, are the other highlights of the temple.

Scenic look

Nice and clean Temple.Good scenic place.Old people find difficult to climb to temple due to steps they can take rest and walk. But steps are not steep and narrow.Youngsters can utilise for morning exercise. On monsoon time it will be pleasant place.Good family spot.

Quite place with good sightseeing from top of hill

This temple is on a hill with about 120 steps to reach, it is very quiet. When we went there around 8 AM, no one was there. We spent quality time meditating and singing. The priest arrived a little later and did the pooja. The statues of Kadothkaja (son of Bhima) and Velavan-Valli, Shiva, are all very artfully crafted. We get some good view of Yelagiri from atop the hill. Good place for peace lovers.

Located on a small elevated area with good hill view

This temple is only 50 years old and was constructed by the tribal community of Yelagiri for their worship. The temple is located on a small elevated area with good hill view. This temple is worth a place to spend time in isolation and silence. Must visit place for all those who prefer silence and pleasant hill view. Parking facility available.

Get the Blessings.

Lord Muruga as in Palani is there to bless with ease. Pray for owning a piece of land and a house at Yelagiri . He will bless you.
