Santiniketan - a small town in birbhum, west Bengal where the famous poet Rabindranath Tagore stays, build visva bharati university which is unique in the world where students are still studying under the tree
Visva-Bharati University is one of India's major Central Government funded autonomous universities located in Santiniketan, West Bengal. It was founded by Rabindranath Tagore who called it Visva Bharati, which means the communion of the world with India. In its initial years Tagore expressed his dissatisfaction with the word 'university', since university translates to Vishva-Vidyalaya, which is smaller in scope than Visva Bharati.
Best known university
Santiniketan is best known for its proximity to Visva Bharati University, the university set up by the Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore. It is one of the seats of culture and education in West Bengal. So many students of Visva Bharati were placed in different place of India and other country. The education quality and regulation is very popular to become successful in life.
Journey to the Tagore era
The world poet KABIGURU Rabindranath Thakur had set up this university in the twentieth century. You can visit the car used by KABIGURU, you also can feel the experience of how the study culture was on the twentieth century. The place will make you nostalgic, you can also visit the museum. It is an worthy experience who have visited this place.
It was serene and calm, with a feel of nostalgia. I could imagine how the open gurukul system would have been here. It was lovely, would love to see how it looks in rain.
Tagore's school of learning
The winter is the best time to visit this mesmerizing place. Walk through the university and you can feel the richness of the heritage in every corner of it. Walk around to see the departments and the age old Tagore tradition that are still followed by the teachers' and students of this university.

Visva Bharati University - Kaviguru Rabindranath's dream institution
An Institute, that is nonparallel in this world. The buildings, the classrooms, the atmosphere, the creations of the students placed here and there, everything is different, this attracts anyone.
Huge campus nicely maintained
I was mesmerized with length and breadth of the campus, history at every corner. Like heaven for Tagore lovers can take a guide who will take you through all places and story to tell about them. While taking guide be careful about their authenticity and kind of knowledge they have for guiding you.
The best place to be in Santiniketan
If you are at Santiniketan the Vishva Bharati is a must visit. The beauty of nature, the age old heritage, the harmony is what you see at the institution. Go with the flow and you will be able to watch one of the most prestigious institutions of the country from the core of your heart. If you are visiting during summer carry umbrella and sunglasses and also if possible try to wear ethnic outfits to get the real feeling of the ambience.
Don't give this place amiss
In Shantiniketan and if you do not visit this place you are missing the whole charm of the place. You are completely missing the values, the rich history, the ethos that Shantiniketan stands for. You are at the abode of the great poet and giving his creation a miss is not doing justice to yourself. Please hire a guide available there (they are recruited by the authority and carry an id card), the rate is fixed so you can ask them for a receipt and to show you the charges. The guides have immense knowledge about the place and surroundings and there are different trips available, so you can choose whatever suits you. If you are old or have a problem walking, i would suggest you do not take this trip as this calls for a lot of walking. You can otherwise relax inside the complex (you will miss a great details though). The guides will tell you where Rabindra Nath Tagore (the great poet) wrote his genius creations. Please carry umbrellas, water, camera for your and be ready for walking! Cheers,Debasis SilShantiniketan is a great place to relax and to be with yourself. Its the place to unwind yourself from the pace of city life. My travel to Shantiniketan always give me that inner peace.Rater Tara Diner Rabi gives the perfect ambience for that. Very homely and the best part is the beautiful garden in front of the guest house. Even better when its in full bloom. Staffs are very friendly and so is the proprietor. They have free wifi, comfy rooms (stay at first floor), food is homely (but try eating outside also - shantiniketan have some great eateries, Shakuntala, Banalakshmi and theres another restaurant just beside the movie hall in shantiniketan), car parking is also no problem. We stay there during most of our visits in Shantiniketan. The place is a bit pricy but we love the place. Ask the hotel for arranging a Boul song evening. Every time we go there we try to arrange one and its so refreshing! You need to pay the Boul team separately as guest house does not pay that. But its not so expensive ( you need to negotiate). Also you can try Adivasi dance and songs (local tribal dance and songs) - I have never tried though. They (the tribals) try to charge more (you need to bargain heavily). Also try for the Saturday Haat (market). It will be a great experience near the Khowai. You can also visit the Kopai river and if you are lucky you can get a Boul singer there. Sit there, have tea and listen to bowl song (you need to pay the bowl) . The experience will be worth it. Please take a trip to the University with the guides available. The guides come with a price but the experience will be worth it. You will get to know the richness and history of Shantiniketan and Rabindra Nath Tegore. Cheers and find peace in Shantiniketan.Debasis Silhttps://hobbynetworking.com
