Reaching The Resort: Reached Mangalore Airport from Chennai through SpiceJet around 9. 0 am. Booked taxi through Kerala Tourism and they charged 2750 for Etios and reached the resort in 2 hours. Distance is around 70 km. Location: Located in Kasaragod around the river Nombili with the beach on the other side. Resort has an internal Lagoon. Tariff: I booked through Taj directly and the amount paid is 16358 for Superior Room With Sit Out room that is non-inclusive of Breakfast. Check-In: On Arrival, they gave us welcome drinks that is not fresh but a bottled one. It would be better if they can server tender coconut or some fresh juice. Check-in was quick and they accommodated our request for early check-in as we reached by 12 pm. Being Taj Epicure member, I had upgrade voucher and my room got upgraded to next level DELUXE VILLA WITH COURTYARD with courtyard. Room: It was kind of a villa with separate compound and gated with maximum privacy, even the Bathtub was in the open air and more than 1000 square feet space. Bed Room was awesome with splendid views and with all the amenities(Minibar, Bathrobe & Slippers, Ironing Board, Hair Dryer, 37 Inch Tv, In Room Safe)Of a 5-star resort. It has a small fountain and the Bathtub was covered with candles. It has a big swing with bed, where all family members can lie down and enjoy the swing. Room was big with a soft king size bed. Rest room has full-length mirror that was exceptionally good and all the luxury amenities. Family of 2 adults and 2 kids can stay comfortably. Food: Food was little let down and not up to the taj standards. Breakfast was really good and they provide complimentary snacks and tea in the evening. Food was expensive, even curd rice costs around 600rs. Service: We didn't get great service when we requested for bubble Bath the service guy arrived late. When we requested for additional soap it was delivered next day, didn't expect this from Taj. Next day manager reached to us and expressed apology for the issues we faced. Being my kids birthday they did an extraordinary room decoration and provided complimentary cake and chocolates. Restaurant: Food taste is OK but they took lot of time to deliver even curd rice. We informed them up front that we have an infant and need the food soon still around 45 minutes was taken. Activities: Not much activities. Even the kids play area is under renovation and for long time. Pros: Location, Room. Cons: Service. Lack of Activities
We stayed for 3 nights between Nov 7th to Nov 10th 2015 at the Taj Vivanta Baikal at Kasargod Kerala The property by itself is a wonderful one. Spread over 26 acres, the property is touching the backwaters and the beach. It is 2 hours from Mangalore Airport though I daresay if the roads had been better the journey could have been done in 1 and half hours On reaching the property I was actually a little disappointed as it does not immediately blow you away as some properties do. The approach is a little narrow (within the village). And it does not have a polished clean finished look as I am accustomed to of business hotels, (but then this isn't a business hotel). It has a rustic look and feel about it Our room had a plunge pool and an outdoor swing (jhoola bed). The room itself I thought for a villa is a little small. It always helps to have 1 and 1/2 room with a couch kind of a thing. Nevertheless the washroom was big and the dressing area well placed within the room. I loved the placement of the bathtub. It was outdoor beside the plunge pool. The kids (3 and 6 years) don't know swimming so I would suggest for those with kids who don't know how to swim be a little careful as the plunge pool is deep (5 feet or so). There is an access to an outdoor shower in this room which leads to the indoor shower which is of great help when you want to quickly shower outside and go into the pool. The only thing I didn't like at all was the lighting and the smart switches. Took a really long time to figure them out (tough to handle especially in the dead of the night). Other than that the room was great The property itself has a lot to do. One can do archery, kayaking on the backwaters, go to the beach. There is an activity room for the kids where they can play, paint the walls, etc. To move across the property you can use an electric buggy that comes in around 10 minutes from the time of request Getting out of the property on your own is tough if you want local transport. I ventured out once in the afternoon and there was no transport outside the hotel premises (as you see in many hotels across India). I had to walk around 250 mts. And by luck got an auto rickshaw who a little reluctantly took me to the local restaurant around 1. 5 km away. The hotel provides transport but the minimum is for 2 hours and obviously far more expensive than local transport Spectacular service. The staff service was wonderful! They were attentive, responsive and very helpful and friendly. Typical of all the star hotels I have been to in India. When they could not provide a baby cot for the 3 year old they changed it with a full size mattress which was very useful. We asked for morning milk for all 3 days from the breakfast room which was delivered to our room complementary. The food quality and choices were excellent at the buffet All in all, the experience was a very good one. I daresay more than 4 nights might make one feel it is a bit too much as there is precious little to do outside the resort other than going to see the Baikal fort. If you are okay with just chilling in the resort and the beach, lazing all day in the pool or generally doing nothing, it is a very good option As a footnote I must add that star property holidays in India are really expensive and maybe unnecessarily so! Despite this being a package with a leading credit card with discounts built it (and a few freebies thrown in) it was still a steep 25K per night! At those prices I would think Sri Lanka or Maldives and Bali are a far better option. I think Indian hotel chains really need to revisit the prices of their packages else they may lose out to closer to home foreign destinations.
I went to Bekal to celebrate my husband's birthday. We wanted a place just to relax and where we could drive down from Bangalore. This property came to be a wonderful choice. Beautiful place with a nice view of backwaters and sea. We stayed at Deluxe Delight room with Plunge Pool. The room was quite spacious with good basic amenities. But what I really liked was feel of a small cottage shaped as houseboat. The swing and plunge pool added to the beauty. Pool can accommodate 2 people easily but if you are looking for bigger option then the common pool solves the purpose better. Common pool has a beautiful view of back waters. Property is big enough and you get bicycles to use around. You can indulge is some outdoor activities by paying some extra amount. Restaurants are good but. we found breakfast buffet is much better than lunch and dinner. All I can say is it is worth the money.
After having been to other parts of Kerala, we decided to explore the less visited land of Baikal in Kasargod. Known for its virgin beaches, lagoons and backwaters, it did not disappoint us. This is the only place where you will be able to walk along white sandy beaches with water bodies on both your sides - backwaters on one and ocean on the other . . Right from the welcome by affable GM Samir Khanna to the time we left, we were made to feel important, most comfortable and cared for. Our Premium Indulgence Villa was spacious and plush. The only snag was I missed my fave tv channel Colors as it was not available. More than 600sq ft area of outdoor space to our villa gave us a feeling of openness and privacy. Lounge chairs facing landscaped greenery, a large bed swing coupled with an infinity plunge pool in our villa complex served to enhance a relaxed holiday mood. Buffet meals at Latitude restaurant were lavish and varied. Breakfast items were lavish and I loved the flavored yogurts with fruit compotes. But during lunch and dinner times, the dessert counters could have offered some Indian mithais. Chefs Ashok Pillai and Santosh served us the local sell-out of Thalacherry Biryani and Kebabs - and yes they were worth trying. For lunch the next day, we dug into Kerala Sadya on banana leaves at Ivory Tower - except for some mix ups, it was good. We asked for a repeat of bittergourd chips and they did not arrive at all. The dishes need a dash of liberal seasoning. Make it a point to take early morning beach walks, avail of the naturalist's expertise if you are a bird watcher and don't miss canoeing and kayaking activities on Kappil river and even try your hand at angling and catching fishes like snappers and karimeen. The resort's itinerary included a visit to the famous Baikal Fort If personal touch can do wonders, then this is it. We had a splendid time and highly recommend Vivant by Taj as it lives up to a luxe lifestyle!
This place, Taj Vivanta Baikal was a surprise holiday destination gifted to me by my wife for my 30th. We completely fell in love with the place from the start, everything was so perfect that the people welcomed us with the welcome drink, after our long drive from the Manglore Airport The rooms are amazing, we had the room that was facing with the beach back waters with our own private mini pool. The rooms were very spacious and the hospitality of the staff was amazing, whenever we gave a call asking for something they would happily do it for us with a big smile of them. The food we heard from our friends earlier who had been that was really okay, but to our surprise we were given amazing Veg, Jain food and if they did not have that they would make it for us. The breakfast was filling. The walk towards to beach was one of the things not to miss. Overall, I would say this place was one of the finest and a must visit for the couples, the best times are after July till March.
We went as a family to celebrate my 40th birthday with my wife and son. The property was calm and secluded and hence really left us with a lot of family time. To start with, the rooms were beautiful, with a plunge pool inside, with a open Bath tub, a small water body, a huge swing (we slept on it one night). Yoga sessions in the morning were something me and my wife looked forward to every morning. A bar by the pool, a spa at one corner of the property, hospitality at its best made it a complete getaway. Nature trails organized by the hotel were fun, definitely no excitement outside the property, hence don't expect the works beyond the property. If getting marooned at a scenic spa holiday with complete calm is your idea to take a trip, Taj Baikal is the place to be.
