To start. The location is beautiful located at Kumarakom approx one and half hours by road from the Cochin airport minus the traffic. The check in was smooth. Helpful front office. A walk through the property and was treat for the eyes and mind. Our rooms were located right next to the vembanad lake and was a pleasing scene that would make you wonder why they even call "kerala, Gods on country". We were shown our rooms and again a surprise seeing them which was more like a cottage with wooden flooring and exteriors and a spacious room with slide in/out doors. The beds were big enough and the ceilings were lovely and a patio where we could unwind just not talking and enjoying the beauty at its best. The bathrooms were neat and kept well with a window where you could attend the natures call with the view of nature and was equipped with a heater. The property already has a bird park of their own being a part. A must do is hire a speed boat and do a trip on the vembanad lake for which you just have to call the reception and ask them to block one for you, the ideal time would be around 4-4:30 when the sun is not heavy on the skin. Ours was an MAP. The dinner was good wasn't there for their breakfast so can't say much. But the flavor in every dish was apt except the desert wasn't up to the mark. For those who would like to have the company of alcohol, I suggest you BYOB cause they only have a beer and wine parlour and nothing much great to it. Our overall experience was just awesome. Make sure you pre book cause their mostly booked. Its not so expensive and not so cheap. But yea for the nature i'd say you can pump in some cash for the lovely experience. Would definitely recommend it for couples, families or anyone who just loves nature.
Me wife and I with two kids checked in. The resort's villas are situated on the bank of small canals I. E two side is water canal. Also lake fronted villas are also available. Ducks, hen, Turkish hen, emu birds are interesting factors for kids. Boating available. Pool is there. Restaurant is situated in the middle of Lake. A superb place for leisure and relaxing. A feeling like we are in centre of jungle. And most very reasonable price.
Waterscapes is a government run resort in Kumarakom. I didn't expect much but was really surprised by the quality of the resort. The front desk staff were courteous and helpful, we had a smooth check in. We had booked a lake view cottage and the rooms were pretty decent, gives you a homely feel with a vintage feel The resort is spread across more than 200 acres. Yes, Its big, really big The best part of the resort is the view of the Vembanad lake. Its absolutely stunning. A treat for your eyes !. The restaurant overlooks the lake and serves good food. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend a one time visit to this beautiful resort P. S : Resort arrange boat Tours. Don't miss it.
This is an ideal place to soak in the beauty of nature with its vast waters and lush green landscapes. This is located in the eastern coast of, Vembanad lake. This is fresh water lake formed by joining of three rivers namely Pamba Periyar and Meenachil. This resort is well connected by road, 16 km from Kottayam town. This resort has good lineage, an Essex missionary Henry Baker came to Kumarakom in 1818, his family members was attracted by the fertility of the land and being interested in farming. They obtained 500 acres from Maharaja of Travancore for this purpose. In 1947 this farm land was converted into rubber estate. In the year 1978 Kerala Govt, tourism company bought this property. They developed this into resort along with bird sanctuary Splashing in the pool which is placed adjacent to lake where house boats and speed boats cruising by the boundless lake is a good experience. Surprise attractions is a bird sanctuary. On the prolific estuary of the river Meenachil, embraced by the lake lies the Kumarakom bird sanctuary. Right time to visit the sanctuary is between 6 am to 8 am. This bird sanctuary attracting many birds because of lush growth of mangroves. From October to February migratory birds like common (Eurasian) teals, common (barn) swallows, Caspian terns, collared bush chats from Siberia, Europe and other parts of the world. In the months of February to August local migrants like little egrets, pond heron, black ibis little and large cormorants among others are the visitors. One can see lot of local birds here namely fishtailed drongo, king crow, large cuckoo, green bulbul, magpie robin, rose ringed parakeet, weaver bird and other resident birds Overall this resort is being maintained well, staff are very courteous, infrastructure is really good. This resorts has two mini conference halls facing the lake. Since this property is quite old, it needs complete revamp in the infrastructure. If does this, it may attract many more tourists to this wonderful palace.
To begin with, it was holidayiq.com which made me decide on waterscapes when I was planning a weekend getaway with my husband. Well, in one word, this hotel is really superb. Both my husband and I agree that it is the best resorts we have ever been to. The destination, Kumarakom, needs no mention now as it is already an acclaimed tourist attraction in God\'s own country. The elegance and charm of the backwaters is completely captured by the beautifully constructed Waterscapes, which actually blends with the lake effortlessly. The first thing which hits you while steeping into the resort property is the way the whole of it is entwined with nature. Landscaped beautifully with a maze of canals and water bodies, the various private and self standing cottages built Kerala style with thatched roofs and standing on stilts is a sight to stand back and admire. The idea of building the reception connection passage between the reception, the restaurant and the view point on see through skeletons which give you a view of the lake underneath is perfect. The various cottages are designed to give different enchanting views of the surrounding beauty. The interiors are neat and cosy with all the right amenities for a very wonderful stay. The cane and bamboo furniture add to a certain rustic charm all around. One of the many pluses of the stay here is the experience of waking up to the birds singing and the lake slowly lighting up...Its simply superb! Booking was very easy since run by KTDC and the front office were really helpful in spite of booking only two days early at the peak time!. Overall service was also pleasant and the staff were non intrusive respecting the privacy of the guests. Check out was also sppedy and efficient. The setting of the restaurant is really beautiful although the choices here are quite less. Kerala style meals are given more priority. I would say the dinner was their best effort. The resort schedules one interesting activity everyday. For the night we stayed it was Kathakali, the traditional kerala art form. The rendition was pretty impressive and simple. But since a backwater stay is more inclined to peace and quiet, other activities do take a backseat! In short, this was the perfect weekend getaway and an exotic backwater experience in one thanks to Waterscapes...!
