The Sand Dunes Village is located about a 15 minute Jeep drive from Khimsar Fort. Once you check in at Khimsar Fort you and your group are taken by jeep to the village while the luggage arrives in another car. A few hundred metres short of the huts one gets off the jeep and the guests and luggage are take on a camel cart to the huts. The service is excellent. You do not have to carry anything The huts are made of mud and well furnished and decorated. Beds are comfortable and the room is huge with a dome ceiling. There are no televisions or phones in the room. The bathroom has showers open to the sky with running hot and cold water All around one can only see sand and sand dunes. There is a little man made pond with ducks swimming around At night the bar service starts and we get snacks in front of a camp fire. Buffet dinner is served and is of excellent quality. In the evening they serve high tea on top of the sand dunes. In the morning we once again got buffet breakfast Everything was excellent. Great stay.
The journey from Jodhpur to Khimsar Fort takes under 2 hours by road. Once at the Fort Hotel which itself is in the Khimsar Fort. It has maintained old charm of the fort has some super views and a garden. There is also a very nice swimming pool. Also on display are the Maharajah's collection of vintage cars and jeeps A short and enjoyable jeep ride (about 10 minutes) and even shorter camel cart trip over the dunes takes you into another world This is an Oasis with about 16 individual huts. What can I say about this but well worth the trip. This little oasis in the dessert is very beautifully done. From the outside it is a mud hut but inside the rooms are nothing short of 5 Star quality. High ceilings, modern appointments Air conditioning for summer and heating for winter. The huts are very well appointed The bathroom is an experience with the showers open to the sky. Very romantic on a starry night The sand in the dunes is very clean. The service is better than the best hotels, ask for anything and you will be provided. The service excellent and the food very good. The dinner spread was sumptuous the favorite kali Dale and the chicken made Rajasthani style was delicious. The breakfast spread was also very elaborate. But the hot masala omelet was the best To see a spectacular sunset all one has to do is climb up the dune. Complimentary tea and coffee is provided and then in the evening sit by the bonfire for an evening drink and some great food. The chef is from ITC so the food is great. The same service is provided for Sunrise as well However, this is a trip to be done in winter as summer the sand will be too hot.
I stayed at Hotel WelcomHeritage Khimsar Sand Dunes Village, Khimsar during November month of 2013 with my fiancee. Hotel is located between cleaned sand dunes and pond and it makes a classic appearance. Hotel Staff is very nice & gentle. We enjoyed dirt racing on dunes which made our stay memorable one. We also enjoyed safari ride provided by hotel. I recommend you all to stay and enjoy this lovely resort once.
We absolutely loved our stay at the Sand dunes village. Such a unique surrounding, beautiful small houses very well decorated and really clean and amazing staff. The food was good as well and it was so great to have breakfast by the small lake in the morning. It was not cheap but definitely worth it and would love to stay there again.
The sand dunes surrounding this pretty resort are breath taking. It was serene and peaceful. We were fortunate to visit this part of the desert in the best season. Staff is very courteous. Service was excellent. Food I personally thought if it could have been presented with more choices of the local cuisine it would have been great. But no complains what so ever.
We had planned a 1night stay at Khimsar fort but extended our stay by a day to spend a night at the Dunes. The place was divine. My sons had a blast playing in the sand dunes. The Thar is a shrub desert and the 'Dunes' is situated in a clearing where the shrubs have been removed. A wonderful place to enjoy the desert ambience! The camel safari was fun as was the experience of watching the sun set over the Thar desert.
The overall experience on this trip was excellent. The place is awesome for someone on wedding anniversarry. The staff there is very courteous and attend to each and every guests\'s need. The food was excellent. Few more excursions or activities should be available.
