Jaisalmer - The marvelous land of sand, sunsets and structures. One of the most beautiful and tourist friendly places that I have visited in India. Unfortunately or fortunately it's not on the map of the regular Indian tourist . I had visited Jaisalmer at the end of October which is just the beginning of the tourist season and hence had the luxury for scouting around for other rooms even when I had one booked at temple Palace. In peak season it does not make sense to visit Jaisalmer without confirmed bookings !. Temple Palace is as the name suggests a beautiful palace, part of which is still used as a residence by the rajah. The temple part comes from the ornately carved 5 storied tower which is visible from the whole city. This palace is centrally located and has beautifully carved walls and jharokas which people come in visit . . In terms of its presentation it's more of a residence hotel in the sense that it have a standard looking reception. But that mean that the level of service is low. The people are very courteous and ever eager to help . There a couple of rooms have been retained in the style. Though beautiful at they look and smell like a museum and might not be everybody's idea of a hotel room. I too picked up their regular room which was very well appointed and comparable to rooms in any good 3-4 star hotel . The food at the restaurant which serves Indian, Chinese and Continental is good though the service is a bit slow . Over all staying here was a very good experience and is certainly recommended.
It is a living palace used by the royal family even now. It is a tourist spot in its own right and it takes half a day to explore the hotel\'s treasures itself including a the museum! The fort is at walking distance!
We stayed here on the 26th Dec'16 in room 202 and 205. Two rooms occupying 4 people, including one senior citizen 75yrs+ =For those people who are planning a stay here:-. #WelcomeHeritage #MandirPalace. #HotelMandirPalace #Jaisalmer. People travel to places to have experiences, to feel the experience and live the experience We did not see the type of hospitality and service as expected from a 3 Star hotel. On reaching the hotel at 11:00-11:15 we could not check in because the rooms were not ready. Something which irritated me was the arrogance of the front office Manager to ask us to go on sight seeing while the rooms are cleaned and setup. I naturally did not show my displeasure since we are on a tour and experiences counts more Even Hyatt and Carlsons group hotels allow check ins around 11:00AM - Earlier while booking we looked for reservig either Rang quarter and Gorbandh Palace as the service there is much better then this place. We could not get reservations as these two were reserved and we had to go with temple Palace on a 2nd suggestion by someone close. Even the travel agent was hesitant to book, but we had less options even during booking alin September. - We were treated indifferently by their staff and the guest service was very biased. The instance happened in the late evening around 7:30-8:00 at your roof top restaurant. No servings or courtsey to ask - There was a cultural musical program and buffet planned for the guests. We were already full and wanted to have just some ala chart meal. But it seemed that the staff was not very encouraging and no courtesy to ask "What would you like for the dinner? " Or alteast offer a Menu card. One should not be forced to others conveniences. We were less likely to have a buffet especially after a lot of travel and sightseeing and having experienced a couple of such cultural programs earlier during our stay in Jaipur and Bikaner(we stayed in Lalgarh Palace hotel) - temple Palace hotel is not for those who are having expectations of best service and warm & welcoming nature - Only thing good we found is rooms are excellent, property is prime, closeness to the Jaiselmer Fort. We had ala chart lunch in the afternoon here. Food was good - Choose your stay here wisely, especially if your are an upper middle class Indian To The Hotel Management:-. A background of our travel across India and world. We have travelled North, South and East of India. Stayed in best in class 3 Star and 4 Star properties . We have stayed abroad in Europe and the US, but the outlook to service your guest and hospitality is what counts wherever your stay. We found that missing here in temple Palace, Jaisalmer. Since we were already full, all we wanted was ala chart meal in dinner and some wine at your roof top restaurant overlooking the beautiful Jaisalmer fort. Your front office manager (I don't recollect the name . It ended with Raj) suggested us to have the buffet instead. But one of your serving staff mentioned that due to the cultural musical program and buffet in the evening they could not serve ala chart meals . Your front office manager later did try to pacify us and apologize by saying the staff is new and was unaware. Just because your staff is new ( which I believe was a lame excuse on your front office managers view does not mean you miss out giving that best experience to your guests Sadly just one instance that happened today in the evening in your roof top reataurant changed my view of your hotel. More so I was with an elder citizen aged 75yrs+, who himself has travelled across countries found that service and welcoming nature missing in your managers and staff. It was insulting. Change your outlook towards Indian guests, and be courteous and treat well your Indian guests, especially senior citizens. Teach your front office managers some soft skills and guest service skills Recommendations of this hotel: Strong No. I would strongly not recommend this hotel property to anyone be it from India or abroad or a Person of Indian Origin, because of the indifference in outlook of the staff and lack of courtesy and welcoming nature of the managers.
Mandir Palace definitely doesnt keep up to the ITC Wecome Heritage group name. Or it may be that because of the name of the Group our expectations were high. This was a Jodhpur - Jaisalmer - Jaipur trip and we had planned to celebrate our wedding anniversary in Jaisalmer. Mandir Palace was chosen as the hotel since the photos on the ITC Welcome Heritage Group site looked very good..lesson learnt dont go by pictures on the website , they take these pictures from points and at that time of the day when the property looks best........the Badal Niwas or the 5 tiered structure is indeed very admirable and the jharokhas were exquisitely carved- the hotel is one of the sightseeing spots in Jaisalmer and very rightly so. The location is excellent right in the centre of all activity - the fort and the other sightseeing spots - Salim Singh\'s Haveli, Patwon ki Haveli and Nathmalji i Haveli are all walking distances from the hotel. The hotel serves Indian, Chinese and Continental dishes but the Rajasthani fare which one might want to sample on a trip to Rajasthan is very limited. (Not to blame the hotel but the whole of Jaisalmer & Jodhpur looked like they wanted to cater to non-Indian tourists). Service is pretty slow and I wish they would serve Kellogs cornflakes for breakfast, the quality of the cornflakes was not good at all. As mentioned earlier our expectations were high and somehow the hotel didnt live upto the name. Booking was quite a problem since the company accepts only cash or cheques and drafts have to be sent. In today\'s world where e-transactions are possible, tey should have some sort of a facility where payments can be made through the internet.
It is like travelling back in time - exquisitely carved Jharokhas, mirror and wall painting in the small Durbar hall area - roof top restaurant looks up to the lighted ramparts of the fort - (not so clean alleys in the daylight, though!). Location is very good and the staff quite helpful. Nothing much to do inside the hotel - but its a stone\'s throw from the vibrant handicraft and fabric markets and about a km from the fort. Quaint, pretty, not crowded - loved it!
