Woodville Overview

Ranked 18 of 40 sightseeing in Shimla

Woodville is among the finest and oldest sites of Shimla built in 1865. Located in the east of the city, the mansion was the honoured residence of the Commander-in-Chief during the British regime. General Sir William Rose Mansfield was the first occupant of the bungalow.

In 1881, the mansion was bought by Sir James Walker who passed it on to the Alliance Bank of Simla, which used Woodville as the manager's residence. Carrying forward the progression, the bungalow was acquired by Raja Rana Sir Bhagat Chand of Jubbal. He converted the mansion into his summer palace.

After the demise of the King, Woodville was transformed into a hotel by one of his grandsons. Implicative of a European house, the house has beautiful surroundings and wooded pavements with dotted boundary of cedars and lawns.

At present, Woodville is known as the Woodville Palace Hotel, which offers luxurious accommodation with advanced facilities and recreational opportunities.

A well maintained property with good food

Its like a palace which was built by the royal family which still lives there and the place is constantly evolving. The lawn just outside the property is a perfect location for dinner/snacks. The food was good and the stay was comfortable. The rooms are big and looks royal.

Old town Shimla

Woodville is one of the oldest towns in Shimla. It is famous mostly because of the Woodville palace which is now converted into a five star hotel. The interiors of hotel are completely wooden and give a royal feel. If you ever want to realize how to live life king size, then this is the place to be.
