Zoji-La Pass - Close to Heaven, Down to earth.

SonamargAlso known as Meadow of gold ..Indeed a place-Close to Heaven, Down to earthIt is not so rampaged tourist spot but is so soothing, speculative and serene, making it worth a visiting place in Kashmir.Local sightseeing1. Thajwas GlacierYou need to hire ponies for Thajwas Glacier. If you have already visited Pahalgam, I feel like there's a little need to go there; but if you want, you again need to negotiate for those rides.2. Fishing PointA Verdant and beautiful place for fishing.A perfect place to take me long walks and just slowing down the pace of life.Even water sobbing is available here3. Zojila pass or Zero Point:A must visit place, if you are visiting Sonamarg or Kargil or Leh-Ladakh.Private vehicles are not allowed. You'll have to hire a taxi from Sonamarg by negotiating (around 2000 to 3000 INR along with gum boots and raincoat is something you can come up to). From Sonamarg to Zero point it's about 15 km distance on NH 1D.As you travel more on that trail, you will see many gigantic figures with snow looming over them. Those larger than life figures, their charm making you want to meet and know them better. The name is zero point : The temperature there averages to around degree Celsius. The expedition on that Highway ( highway of just a name, it's not even one lane also I guess :-PMy god it was most daunting, scary, yet inspiring. Its like once in a lifetime experience. The highway connects Srinagar to Ladakh. The road was so narrow, with 20 - 20 feet high snow on both sides, at a time only one vehicle could pass, with just two or three places to cross. So the traffic mostly goes in one sided direction at a time, alternatively.Start your journey as early by 8 a. M. If you want to completely enjoy at Zojila, otherwise you will be stuck in that heavy traffic.Zojila passThe first snow is like First love.Snow provokes responses that reach right back to childhood. My first experience with snow was literally hilarious :POne step, 2nd step and then a big tumble. I guess this happened about 25 to 30 times, all thanks to those ill fitting gumboots.A tumble ..And a nice fall ...Just save yourself. Yeah?Use the opportunity of being near the snow to try out some adventure sports like sledge riding, ice skiing for a chilling encounter.Sledge rideHonestly it was my first experience so I was quiet excited too.It was like Jingle Bell, Jingle bell types feeling all around but it wasA good old fashioned fun.Ice SkiingIt was my first experience, but a wonderful one. But again, I had many great falls !!In between take out some time and have a mellow look around. See how heaven-kissing, ramp led and bellowing the view is. How it's asking you perch yourself to the top.Towards the end, the day becomes quite hectic, withBlood almost frozen in veins ..But it's worth it.After all that fun, enjoy some hot sizzling food with adrak chai over there under tents.I was quiet lucky to get a kangri there, to beat the frostPS :- It's highly recommended from my side to take a photographer along with you from sonamarg to Zojila. It's makes you a lot burden free and you don't have to worry as the right person is there for you to capture all your precious moments.

Good place

This pass opens up the way towards Ladakh Valley while going via Srinagar. It experiences long traffic jams because of narrow and under construction roads and owing to the bad weather conditions and land slides also.It is near Sonamarg and can be seen while going to Leh via road.Happy Holidaying !!Warm Regards

A place filled with snow

From Baltal onwards the road condition became too stiff, slippery, muddy and lots of potholes. Climate also took a drastic change. All white, just white. Black mountain and white snow, lovely combination. We stepped out of the car at Zojila, though temperature reads around 8 degree C, but feels like zero. Wind chills from snowy mountains made us tighten our jacket zippers. Anyway, again it was photo-shooting time. So, all the guys and girls became shooter and model respectively. Good Luck to us that snow falls occurred just night before we were there, so all we got is white, snow-white. There were a tea stall. We took tea for Rs. 20/- each cup.

Awesome place during Leh visit

I visited this place during my trip of Leh via Kargil, you can feel that clouds are running on road. Beautiful view, temple is around 0 C or -2 C.Advice: Do not stay more than 15 min, it may cause danger for your health.

Excellent pass with breathtaking views

Breathtaking views on crossing this pass. When you actually reach the pass you get mesmerized by the beauty all around sipping a cup of hot kawa. You just sit and enjoy the pass as the entry to Ladakh area. It is being at a height of 11, 500 ft there is not much problem of oxygen.

Zoji-La not so good place

Second day Morning after breakfast we went up to Zoji-La Road is not so good but the BRO are mentioning 24 hours. But the mountain is not supporting as it is sandy type but BRO continue to keep road open as per the hotel staff government of Jammu and Kashmir. They are making tunnel to keep open Sonamarg in Winter may be it will take 4 years, hope that it will be complete soon, so that we can enjoy skying. Also hope that electricity problem will be taken care in such cold place. We observed that the army convey creates little problem which can be taken care and request the govt to build some wash rooms which is the big problem especially with family.

A very slippery place, must be careful

Challenging road stretch on way from Srinagar to kargil-leh, this rises, to about 10,000 feet height. Heavy vehicles find difficult to manoeuvre due to incline and narrow road width especially during snow season when it becomes slippery. There is a small temple where visitors halt and offer prayers. Wear anti skid shoes/slippers and carry small umbrella.
