Get ready to experience pomp and traditional fervor! The Galo Adi tribe of Arunachal Pradesh celebrates Mopin in the month of lumi (April) every year. With gaiety for wealth, good health and universal happiness, the festival is celebrated to thank Gods for their providence. And do not forget to get your face painted with smearing rice powder(yes, it’s a part of their ceremony).

The location is a little interior but the approach road to the home stay is very beautiful. Fully surrounded by dense trees and a lake full of bloomed lotus flowers are there to welcome you at the home stay. The hosts are very welcoming and they make you comfortable as soon as you enter. Very friendly family and cosy rooms."

The Attuvela Mahotsavam at Kottayam is a water carnival. The festival is held at Elankavu Sree Bhagavathy Temple. It is believed that this is a welcome ceremony for the Goddess of Kodungalloor who comes to visit her sister, the Goddess of Elamkavu.

Although you have to walk a short distance to get the auto. The staffs were really helpful. The food quality was good. I would like to recommend this hotel if you are with your friends or group.”

7. Rongali Bihu, Assam

HolidayIQ traveller Abhiraj recommends visiting Assam during Bihu festival. "Bohag Bihu or Rongali Bihu happens in April and is celebrated for three days and marks the start of the New Year there. The first day is dedicated to the cows, which are vital to agriculture. The second day is spent visiting friends and relatives, along with plenty of singing and dancing."

The Kumbh mela at Ujjain is held at the banks of the river Shipra.The legend behind the fair being hosted here is that Vishu is said to have dropped small amounts of amrut (nectar) while transferring it in a pot (kumbha). The festival gets it suffix, Simhastha from the fact that the Ujjain Kumbh Mela is organized when Jupiter is considered to be positioned in Leo, referred to as Simha in Hindu astrology.

9. Baisakhi, Punjab

This is the most vibrant festival celebrated in Punjab to mark the harvest of Rabi crops. Baisakhi also commemorates the day when Khalsa was founded. Khalso is known as Sikh  brotherhood which was laid down by Guru Gobind Singh. And if you are in Punjab, you just cannot afford to miss the  bhangra and gidda. Also, relish the lip-smacking feasts cooked in most households. To witness the biggest celebration head to Golden Temple.

10. Kadammanitta Padayani, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala

Padayani is a performing art form of southern Kerala, particularly central Travancore. It is carried out by villagers accompanied by traditional music and drumming. The performers dress up in costumes consisting of huge masks. The main ones embody Bhairavi (Kali), Kalan (god of death), Yakshi (fairy) and Pakshi (bird).
