Situated deep in the heart of Jumeirah 1, there's a huge villa where a number of eerie incidents have left the occupants shaken. While there are many, the most disturbing is Lora's encounters with a male "spirit".

It began in November when she awakened at 3am feeling intense pressure all over her body as if a person was sleeping on top of her. Trying to sit up, she couldn't move anything other than her fingers. On the curtains, she could see a dark shadow on top of her. One of the nights after the incident, she heard a man's voice from her roommate Mary's bed. Wondering whether her husband was back from the Philippines, she braved a quick peek which revealed Mary who was fast asleep and that mysterious shadow on top of her reflecting on the wall.

2. Singapore: A deadly reservoir

It's not one single incident but many that keep people in perpetual fear of the unknown. Many have suffered terrible cuts on their feet after falling into the water from their kayak.

Legend has it that a mother had jumped from the 25th storey of a building and killed herself after throwing down her 3-year-old son into the water. It was considered a suicide and no foul play was suspected. The laughter of the mother and son is heard in the middle of the night very often.

Horror stories aside, this is what HolidayIQ reviewer Kumar shares about his visit to Singapore, "The must visit places are Universal Studios, Sentosa, Gardens by the Bay, Merlion, Jurong Bird Park, Night Safari etc. This small country has good enough places for your 5-6 days stay. Visit the Chinese Temple (Temple of Love) at Bogis."

3. Hong Kong: Ghosts spewing green smoke!

In World War II, Wan Chai of Nam Koo Terrace was used as a military brothel for Japanese soldiers, where they abused and tortured local women. Since then, there have been reports of headless ghosts walking around the house and spitting green smoke in the nights. A teenage girl was said to be hospitalised after this ghost sighting!

Given that Hong Kong is otherwise one of the most vibrant places, HolidayIQ reviewer Prasanth shares, "Hong Kong is an ideal destination to take a peek into the Chinese culture and yet be cosmopolitan to a good extent. Biggest Buddha statue is a great attraction with a Chinese village and Po Lin Monastery visit. An almost full day visit. Macau will need a visa with lot of casinos and scenic views."

4. Mauritius: A beach known for black magic!

In Mauritius, if you visit Gris Gris you will hardly see any crowd on the beach. That is because plenty of stories claim Gris Gris to be a haunted place and a beach connected to black magic. There have been ritual suicides that were conducted. Most visitors avoid the places as they don't want to carry back bad omen with them.

Turning towards the brighter side of the place, HolidayIQ reviewer Shiri talks about his Mauritius trip, "The touristy places are not a big deal, but the south side is really nice with its greenery and mountainous areas. Great place to go sailing."

Thakandhoo Island in the Maldives is quite a peaceful place until it came in the limelight for some really strange reasons. A tree that was planted on school grounds 13 years ago was suddenly blamed for spirits the resided within it. Three children were said to be possessed until the angry locals chopped it down. There is a child who is still possessed and there is a young girl who used to lose consciousness whenever she walked past this tree.

Keeping aside the Jinn tree story, HolidayIQ reviewer Padmanabha shares some great experiences about Maldives, "Crystal clear waters. Calm sea. Mild waves. Shallow water. You can walk deep into the sea. Super white sands. Colourful fishes. Turtles, sting rays and fishes wandering next to you. Crabs, shells and other creatures crawling around."

6. Bali: A hotel full of horror!

On the way to the iconic Bedugul Lake, lies the Ghost Palace Hotel which was built by Tommy Suharto. He was known to be a corrupt developer who tried to curse his competitors out of the way. You’ll likely encounter the wandering visions of victims, either of labourers rushing to complete the construction, or rivals cursed to horrible deaths.

Highlighting the lovelier side of Bali, HolidayIQ reviewer Kiran says, "Bali is just stunning, I think the photographs do little justice to the beautiful expanse of mystical forest areas, rice fields & naturally maintained country roads."
