March is the month of Holi and the most colorful festival in India makes every nook and corner of the city comes alive with the infectious festive joy. HolidayIQ Traveller Gaurav Gattani also suggests: “Govardhan, Barsana and Nandgaon are the must visit places during Holi.” Adds Reviewer Gaurav Gattani, “We visited Vrindavan during Holi which I believe was the best time to visit Vrindavan in groups. 2. Shillong

Built as a summer retreat for the British empire,  Shillong serves as perfect haven for people who seek relief from the blistering summer heat. The numerous lakes, waterfalls and pine forests make it a perfect place to beat the heat. Cool Guru Soumitro Das from Kolkata shares: “Shillong, the capital of the state Meghalaya is a very nice place for a weekend visit. The town has been built by the British emperor for their relaxation at the time of summer in India, now been developed and it is a good destination to visit for holiday. There are some nice places to watch, viz. Lakes (umium and ward's), falls (elephant notably)churches, monasteries, temples, museum (air force)etc.”

3. Ooty

Even after 6 decades, the hill station of Ooty still bears the lost world colonial charm. The natural surroundings of Ooty include landscapes, dense forest reserves and national parks. Traveller Vaishnavi Kharade shares: “A cool place to go to during summer and the tea plantations are breathtaking. Amazingly situated on hill slopes. The hotels were just too good and the service was nice. The greenery was refreshing and took our mind off the Mumbai air.”

4. Mussoorie

Located on the foothills of Himalayas, Mussoorie is a popular choice amongst travellers because of its scenic views, lush green hills, amazing views of the Doon Valley and Shiwalik ranges on the south. Weather is the main attraction of Mussoorie as even during the summer months it's cool and pleasant. When you think of spending weekend on a hill station, it's Mussoorie that comes to mind. It has excellent weather during summers. 'Kempty fall' is the USP of Mussoorie and you cannot resist being there. It's a natural fall cold water to enjoy. The mall road is another attention seeker having a good market place with reasonable price. Just get in!”


5. Munnar

Located amidst mist-covered mountain ranges and evergreen forests of the Western Ghats, the quaint hill station of Munnar is an idyllic tourist destination with rolling hills, grasslands, dense forests, brooks and rivulets, diverse flora and fauna, numerous waterfalls, lakes, tea plantations and walking trails. HolidayIQ traveller Suma Kale from Bangalore shares, “Munnar is a beautiful hill station with excellent countryside view in God's own country (Kerala). Spending time here in summer is fun. Kids enjoyed the tea estates, Kannan devan tea museum,and other places.Must visit.”

6. Kodaikanal

This laid back hill station of Tamil Nadu experiences an avalanche of tourists through November till February. With the advent of summer, the hill station offers solitude and dirt cheap accommodation for the tourists. HolidayIQ traveller Azarudheen Shaheen shares, "Kodaikanal, also known as Kodai, the Queen of hill stations, is blessed by god with such a beautiful climate. The chill, mist and the mood when we get there make us stay here longer. Kodai serves excellent climate throughout the year. Cheap food and stay is available everywhere. Solo Travellers, couples, groups, families. Kodai is the perfect place. So pack your bags, take your trip to Kodai. Worth every penny spent."

7. Shimla

Shimla is the tourism paradise. Located in the midst of Himalayan cedars and pines, this erstwhile summer capital of the British features dense woodlands, apple orchards and beautiful landscapes and offer respite from the rising mercury level. HolidayIQ traveller Abhinav Singh from Panchkula shares, “ Shimla is the place to get rid of summer madness. As the atmosphere there is neither too cold nor hot. An absolute must visit to beat the heat.”

8. Tawang

Owing to beautiful mountains and monasteries along with 100 lakes, Tawang is one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in Arunachal Pradesh. It celebrates several festivals throughout the year, the Losar Festival, one of the most important festivals in Tawang, is celebrated by the Monpa community usually in February-March, to herald the Monpa New Year according to the lunar calendar. HolidayIQ traveller Barga Deori from Tezpur shares, “It was a great trip overall and would like to visit the hidden paradise again. The ideal time to visit Tawang is generally in the months of October, November, January, February and March. Tawang faces extreme weather conditions in December and hence, is not recommended. It is also not recommended to tourist during monsoon as rainfall causes road blockage and landslides.”
