The doorway to the northeast, Guwahati is the starting point for most itineraries of this area.

HolidayIQ Traveller Antara Oruganti says: “Guwahati, famously referred to as the city of light, is a place of many surprises. The mighty Brahmaputra is one of the main highlights of the city. Take your time and enjoy a boat ride in the misty river and serene hillside views. When it comes to Assamese cuisine, there's nothing to beat the fish items. The delicious preparations of fish items that include the famous 'Maas tenga' is a must try.”

The one-horned rhinoceros is all the motivation you need to travel here!

Suman Singh says, “We travelled to Kaziranga from Guwahati. Kaziranga National Park, famous for the 'Great One-horned Rhinos' is located in Golaghat and Nagaon district of Assam. The 3 hour (approx) picturesque drive will forever be remembered and cherished. The road, a shining black serpent, is lined on both sides by small villages, well organised and clean and beautifully maintained. Every house seems to have a chai baghan in the backyard.”

And what better than staying in cottages at Nature-Hunt Eco Camp. The homemade Assamese delicacies are just the icing on the cake.

The boats take across everything from tigers to cars. The board at the docks read a price for ferrying across a caged tiger, to hens, pigs, cows cars, everything! '2 rupees for a goat'!”

Nadh Sai suggests staying at Uttar Kamalabari Satra: “It has to be the best place to stay in Majuli. Its authentic missing tribe bamboo huts, clean restrooms, home like atmosphere, mouth watering food and such friendly staff make this place perfect.”

Vibrant green hued mountains and warm hospitality from the tribes! Yes, it’s Mokokchung. At an altitude of around 4,430 feet above sea level, this town is a favourite of backpackers. And not to forget: the local Naga food, a variety of pork, chicken and fish dishes served with rice, is a must try.

There is a spot near the hotel from which you can catch a bird's eye view of Mokokchung town, the town where the hotel is located. Highly recommended to tourists travelling to Mokokchung for the first time.

Cheerful and clement Dibrugarh, Assam’s original tea city is worth a visit before heading to Ziro (find out more below). Take a fascinating ferry ride along the Brahmaputra River to Pasighat.

S Khan stayed at Hotel Little Palace: My overall experience was good and I had been here with my family for three days. The location of the hotel is very good and it is near to the river. The view was very good but can be still improved. The service was provided for twenty four hour. They provided complimentary breakfast and Wi-Fi facility. I will recommend this hotel for other travelers. I would suggest them to improve with the room.

This river is a must-visit.

Devaraj says, “The scenic beauty of Cherrapunji is great. It has many spectacular waterfalls, parks and caves but the must visit places are 7 sister falls, Mawsmai Cave and 6 hours trekking to Double Decker Bridge through jangal. Overall a great place to visit for those who loves nature.”

Ekansh Nayal stayed at the Sohra Plaza: One of the excellent decent priced hotels in Shillong. The rooms are spacious and the room service is available. The rooms have beautifully done ceilings. You will need room service since, there are not many restaurants available outside the hotel. I tried matar paneer, toor dal and rice with butter. The taste is very good and prices were also decent. Market is 20 Min away by walk.
