Lukla is our gateway to Namche. The strip is at an elevation of 2800 metres with a an abrupt drop off down to a river valley below. The approach is through a maze of panoramic mountain peaks and the air is often cottoned up with clouds.

Day 4. Walk the beautiful trail to Thame and visit the Namche Bazaar

Thame is traditional and absolutely surreal. As the path from Namche is relatively flat, it is a good place to walk to on an altitude acclimatisation day. Sherpa Tenzing Norgay's house is located near the top of the village.

Kala Pattar is the trekking peak and offers some of the best photographic opportunities to capture large amounts of Mt. Everest. Some say that it offers a better view at all seven of the world’s highest peaks than the Everest Base Camp. It is important to remember that the problem over there is the strong cold wind and it gets dark very soon.

Day 8. Cho La pass is the gateway to shangri-la

It’s not always possible to cross the Cho-La pass. In good conditions, experienced walkers can cross the Cho La pass into the Gokyo valley for more views, crossing Ngozumpa glacier on the way and descend to Lukla by the western trail.

Kathmandu can be intoxicating, amazing and exhausting at the same time. It would be nice to spend two days in Kathmandu, happily exploring the vibrant colours and the essense, handicrafts, eating, seeing the sights.
