Manali is one place which offers you an exciting adventurous holiday along with spectacular natural beauty. It also has a unique cultural aspect that is a welcome addition to your trip.

The Solang Valley is 12 km north of Manali, on the banks of the Beas River. It's a beautiful lush green valley with the backdrop of snow covered Himalayan peaks.  Mayuri Kubal tells HolidayIQ: "The snow clad mountains, the chilled breeze and the snow sports grab one's attention."

A 50 km drive from Manali, brings you to the legendary Rohtang Pass which is "almost seems like a gate to Narnia, because the worlds on either side of it are completely different. The green, almost soft valley of Kullu suddenly becomes the angry, arid and brown Lahaul and Spiti." says HolidayIQ reviewer Madhuri.

How to get there:

By air: The most convenient way to reach Manali by flight is to land at the well connected Kulu Airport and then hire a taxi or board a bus to travel the remaining 50 km by road.

By train: The best way to get to Manali by train is to take a train to Chandigarh Junction, which is well connected to the entire country and cover the remaining 170 km by road

By road: Manali is on the National Highway 3, well connected to the rest of the country via National Highway 44.

2. Shimla, the ‘Queen of Hill Stations’

From Manali, travel to Himachal's capital, Shimla

HolidayIQ Traveller Keki Madon says, “It was Christmas time when we were going to Shimla. As we were driving from Shimla, there was little snow beyond Kufri on the slopes. We stopped to take pictures. The next morning we were surprised to see a blanket of white.” "Do visit the bakeries in Shimla and take a walk on Mall Road", recommends HolidayIQ Traveller Srimanth Saha.

Biswajeet tells HolidayIQ, "Visit Shimla as early as possible because it is just worth watching the beautiful scenarios and mighty mountain ranges. And your favorite snow falls. You will just love it. I would say kindly carry heavy woolen as temperature may change suddenly."

Distance from Manali: 250 km via National Highway 3, 305 and 5 and can be covered in 7 hours.

3. Revisit colonial Himachal at Dalhousie

End your journey by diving into the region history and culture at Dalhousie.

HolidayIQ reviewer Amit Bansal,Dalhousie is a picturesque hill station that has a lot to offer to its tourists, beautiful churches, Victorian country mansions and stunning views of the Pir Panjal Range. You can also check out various hotels in Dalhousie for a pleasant stay in the beautiful hill station. Though Grand View Hotel located near Dalhousie Club, it retains the colonial ambiance and has superb facilities for both adults and kids. Take a walk around Dalhousie's three malls and wooded loops such as Pottery Road, Bakrota and Moti Tibba hills.”

Read traveller reviews and browse hotels in Dalhousie.

Distance from Shimla: 350 km via National Highway 205 and takes about 9 hours.
