HolidayIQ Traveller Divya Nawale, a BITS Pilani graduate, dreams of visiting 50 countries before she turns 30.

This 29 Year-Old Woman Has Travelled To All 7 Continents In The World On A Budget:

  1. India
  2. Ladakh (Leh) (Jammu & Kashmir)

1. Travelling Has Always Increased My Appetite For More

“While travelling there are always three things on my mind- experiencing authentic food, making a few local friends and visiting as many museums as I can. If I am not doing any of the above, I will be found sitting on a mountain staring into the sky and admiring nature,” says Divya Nawale, a BITS Pilani graduate. She is currently working as a consultant in the CSR and sustainability space.

Divya was bitten by the travel bug at the age of 22 when she travelled to the most inaccessible continent, Antarctica as a part of an Expedition Team on Environmental Leadership. “This was the turning point of my life,” she says. The trip made made her realise her love for nature. And then there was no stopping. “This trip fueled my passion for conservation and sustainable living. And suddenly the world had become my oyster.” Be it the Sahara desert, backpacking across Europe, scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef, dancing Bollywood on-stage in London, getting lost in the busy streets of Shanghai, taking Tango lessons in Buenos Aires or Salsa beach parties in Goa, travelling has always increased my appetite for more. Her crazy work schedules and countless projects did not stop her from exploring. She believes that “with no time and no money, you can still travel if you want to travel”

2. The Tranquility Of The Mountains & Hospitality In Ladakh Keeps Calling Me Back

It’s not just about the new places but more so about the overall experience and soaking in the culture of the land. “I had already travelled to 17 states across India with my parents during my early childhood,” says Nawale. The trip to Ladakh is the closest to her heart. The peace, the tranquillity of the mountains, the kindness on the locals and their hospitality keeps calling her back. “It is one of the places in India where I connected to the locals while living amidst nature,” says Divya. “Sitting by the tsangpo lake and watching the Kanchenjuga, while I was on a trip to Sikkim made me fall for nature once again.”

3. Travelling Is Breaking The Mould. You Must Explore Places Just Like The Locals

“I remember my trip to Aswan when I had lunch at the Nubian village with an Egyptian family. It was an experience of a lifetime. I played with the kids of the house,” shares Nawale. She loves taking the road unexplored. While on a day trip in Buenos Aires, Argentina, she joined a group of Spanish travellers who went to the neighbourhood villages. “Though I did not know the language, people were very welcoming and friendly.”

4. Travelling Isn't Expensive. It Can Be Done On A Budget

“I make sure that I take an international trip once in every 6 months.” Divya plans financially towards a mid-budget expense. She adds, “I book tickets as early as possible to get the best deals. I always book my stay at smaller budget hotels or youth hostels."

5. Solo Travel Is The Most Exciting & Fulfilling

"It helps me discover myself. I do not travel to get away; I love the world I live in too much. I travel to make my world a little bigger.” One of the places she travelled to solo was Egypt and brought back a whole lot of Egypt for India to see. The experiences and the people left her enriched. Egypt was a dream, and despite her extensive travel, every new place leaves her a bit more excited.

This globe trotter has covered the 7 continents and aims to have 50 countries down before she turns 30.
