HolidayIQ Reviewer Abhijith Achu shares, “This is a mind-blowing place. The wildlife sanctuary is on the border of Karnataka (Bandipur National Park) and Tamil Nadu (Mudumalai Sanctuary). Travelling by the forest Jeep is better than travelling in your own vehicle as the roads are rough and can be navigated only by the sturdy Jeep! We were lucky to spot bisons, a whole herd of elephants, deer. An elephant which had gone mad came chasing our jeep, which was the highlight of the trip. The thing about visiting a sanctuary is that you get to see the wildlife at very close proximity. We had a group of foreigners behind us who actually spotted a tiger! I was envious, but the elephant made up for it! It is better to visit the place in the morning hours rather than the afternoon as animals do not come out during the heat.” Read Full Review

HolidayIQ Reviewer muthusamy muthusamy adds, “Boating on a lonely lake inside the forest: This lake is inside the forest at a walkable distance from the Periyar house of KTDC. Booking has to be done in advance as there is quite a rush for the ride. When we went, there was not must water but we were told that once it rains, water level rises by 20 ft or so. The ride is breathtaking as one can see logs on the lake here and there. We did see some animals like jackal, deer, elephant, boar and some birds, too. We were told one can even spot a tiger sometimes. But we were not lucky enough to see one. Read Full Review

HolidayIQ Reviewer Venkataramanan G shares, “12. Kabini is famous for leopard sightings. Of course, most of the tourists get to see the elephant, Indian Gaur, Spotted Deer, Sambar Deer, Serpent Eagle, Changeable Hawk Eagle, Malabar Giant Squirrel, langur, Bonnet Macaques, Red Jungle Fowl etc. The lucky ones also get to see the tiger or Sloth Bear or Dhole the Indian Wild Dog. 13. The Karnataka Forest Department and the Tourism department have managed the balance between wildlife and tourism well. 14. Do remember to take along your camera, sunscreen lotion, moisturizer, cap and sunglasses for protection from the sun. 15. We saw Indian wild dogs, elephants, Indian Gaur, jackals, Sambar Deer, Spotted Deer, wild boar, Serpent Eagle, Changeable Hawk Eagle, Rufus Bellied Eagle, Drongo, Indian Roller, White Breasted Kingfisher, Ibis, Green Bee Eater, Peacock, Rufus Treepie, Yellow Footed Green Pigeon, White Cheeked Whiskered Bulbul and a host of other birds. ” Read Full Review

HolidayIQ Reviewer Ravi Subbu shares, “There is plenty of deer around and with all the elephants that have migrated to cooler reserves (Mudumalai and Wayanad), you can spot tigers here more than anywhere else as this type of vegetation is preferred by the big cat. Especially during the dry season, you can for sure spot a tiger near the water holes in the evenings. Some clubs like Serai and country club offer private safaris which are worthwhile but cost a lot more than the ones organized by the government. They cover greater areas, usually last for 3-4 hours and you can be sure that you would spot a leopard or a tiger. ” Read Full Review
