You get to choose what you see, your get the most out of your time, you get to see cultures and people in all their color and magnanimity. One of the best ways to get to know a place better is by taking a road trip. One of the biggest advantages is that we get an unhindered view of the countryside. Driving is the best way to get around, facilities for renting a car out is available almost everywhere.  Here’s a list of countries where you can just show up and drive off on your Indian driver’s licence.

Day 1. The United Kingdom

The Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales or the Scottish highlands, your at the best case scenario if you hire a car get a map and be off on your own. You will learn more about the place at the local pubs that any guide book or website can ever tell you. 

The United Kingdom allows you to drive around with a valid Indian driving license for a year. You drive on the left side which is the same side of the road used in India and can only rent specific classes of vehicles that your license permits. 

Day 2. The United States of America

Be it the Grand Canyon or the Yellowstone National Park, the native culture or the legendary SasquatchThe United States is a collage of topography, people, culture and natural heritage. Get away from the crowds and take a roadtrip across the length and breadth of this huge and diverse country. As long as your licence is in English, you can drive in the US for a year. If it’s in one of the local languages, you’ll require an International driving permit to go along with it.

Day 3. New Zealand

Divided into the North and South Island, New Zealand is a cocktail of landforms, natural spectacles and a proud local culture. This is also the site where many Bollywood superhits have been filmed. Taking a road trip here is a once in a lifetime experience. Indian drivers can drive in New Zealand only if they are of the age of 21 or above for upto a year.

If you have a valid Indian driving license which is not in English you need to get an official translation approved by the New Zealand Transport Agency.  Keep to the left! .

Day 4. France

Whether you explore the rugged terrain of Corsica or cruise through the romance of Paris, or your on an adventure to Montpellier from Nice, a road trip through France is understood only when you take one. The country allows you to drive for a year on your Indian driver’s licence, but will require them to have a French translation.

Day 5. Norway

Very few places have an impact on your sense of sight they way Norway does. Everything here is spectacularly beautiful and leaves an everlasting impression on you. Call it ‘The land of the Midnight Sun’ or ‘The land of Northern lights’ the only way to be fair to this place is to explore it on your own through a memorable road trip.

Whether you decide to explore the mountains at Geirangerfjord or the one-of-a-kind Loten area or absolutely anywhere in the country, drive on the right side of the road here permitted by your Indian driving license which can use here for 3 months.  

Day 6. Switzerland

From turquoise blue lakes to the iconic alps, there is so much to explore in this land-locked yet spectacularly beautiful country. You will need an English copy of your valid Indian license which you can use for upto a year to drive around
