The road trip to Nagpur from Mumbai via Dhule roughly takes around 14 hrs. Best time to start is around 0530 hrs or earlier. The journey was undertaken in winter (December/January period- best period for the trip)The route goes via Nasik-Dhule bypass then on towards Bhusaval. Mumbai till Dhule bypass is one of the smoothest roads. A lovely drive early in the morning. Nasik Ghat section is scenic with a nice chill in the air. Nasik - Dhule again is one of the most smoothest roads. Few eateries on the way. Post Dhule toll you can re-fill fuel at a COCO pump. The road condition in Bhusaval section till Khamgaon is not good. Further, city traffic in this section aggravates the pain! From Khamgaon it is a smooth road (Yes some places are pot-holed) till Nagpur via Amravati by-pass. Plan to take dry food and plenty of juicy fruits to keep you hydrated.
Try as far as possible to reach or cover the Khamgaon-Akola section before or upto 1600 hrs. If not, then take a break towards Shegaon at Khamgaon. Visit Gajanan Maharaj temple (pretty famous for the saint). Avoid Thursday's as they are very crowded. The temple trust has made arrangement for devotees. Eat the famous Kachori at Shegaon and re-start early morning next day.
