The drive was fun with friends as sang songs and heard good music. The 8 hour journey was a long trip but the road we chose via Pune- Kohlapur and then Goa was a good 4 lane road. The old Goa road is a bad trip as there is a lot of traffic and 2 lane roads at many villages. Due to such difficulties the trip becomes a tiresome journey.
As road was good we enjoyed our drive to Goa. As my wife was driving she enjoyed very much as road was clean and less pothole so she can drive hassle free even for some I drove the car. We reached in the morning and we got check-in the hotel room. We had our food in dhabas
The roads of goa are nice and clean, no pot holes but too narrow. Goa roads have hardly changed for the last 20 years that I have seen. There should be new flyovers built as one needs a minimum 4 hours to travel from the North of Goa to the South of Goa. The Goa entry tax is Rs 250/- and beer cost is Rs 60 what a combination.
Very good specially the stretch after Kolhapur. The journey should be a day journey as some areas do not have petrol pumps in the near vicinity. Roads were good specially those in Karnataka. the toll fees are really high. Take the short route of 7 Km after Nippani to Ajra next to Hotel Goa Ways. The road though narrow has less traffic.
Fantastic is one word to describe the whole journey. The roads are beautiful and the entry into Konkan region which ultimately leads you into Goa is exotic. There is a possibility you may miss the bypass, but people are helpful and you will find your way to Goa anyway!! Its not really exhausting, but yes you would need to get out to stretch your legs and there are a lot of dhabas and hotels to help you be satisfied. Open a chilled beer and relax! This is one journey you would want to make again and again!
