Heritage at its best

Though the temple are scattered all over the village, the main ones are within a reach from one to another. Especially the ones close to the Durga temple.
Picturesque location if you love history and heritage sites.
How to reach?
Travelling is not a problem, get on any tuk, for 20 buck(sharing) from statical and they'll drop you outside the main temple complex.

Aihole - sightseeing

Aihole - was the 2nd Chalukya capital and a place, rich cultural history, dating back to even 5th century be. C.
We started our trip here, some temples like Huchimalli, Durga and Lad Khan temples are well maintained, but there are few others, poorly looked after, slush and garbage surrounding those. Some of these sites were makeshift living areas for the locals, it is a pity to see such heritage sites being mismanaged.

Experimental architectural stone temples

This region is full of groups of stone temples along the river banks of the famous regional river MALAPRABA. During earlier days this region is called ayyavole and aryapura. This region is considered to be the cradle of architecture. There is a local story behind the name of this place. Lord paras rama washed his axe in the river mahaprabha and due to this the river turned red and flowed as red blood. On seeing this a woman shouted in shock as AYYAVOLE meaning oh! Red blood !!! In kannada. We were told that this is yet to be considered by unesco. Do carry cap, water, shoes, umbrella, cameras as this place is so hot.

Not recommended

Temples are not clean. Surrounding area looks like a slum. Roads to reach here are pathetic. Beware of local goons . They harassed us for money . . Be safe and mostly avoid this place in that badami-pattadakal stretch. Never advise to visit this place .

A wonderful place. A spiritual paradise

Aihole has amazing temples all still standing with no sign of wear or tear. You can actually see a temple complex with experimentation done on temples. It is a wonderful place. Only problem is with food. Either you stay on light food or depend on stalls.
