A wonder in its own

Badami is situated to the Birth of Karnataka. Proximity to Bangalore is around 447 kms and from Hampi it is 140 kms. The entire stretch from Hampi to Badami is amazing. You have history and art everywhere.
And all these sculptures and monuments are way dated to the 5th _ 8th century.
Badami is a World Unesco site .. Known widely for the Caves and the Bhoothnath temple!
These are caves cut and made amongst huge rocks. Its a beautiful sight and pleasure to visit these caves. Its hard to believe that these were made in the era where there were no machines and all this was carved with bare minimum resources! There are 4 caves and each one depict the divine power of God!
Beware of monkeys ... You'll find a lot many around here.
The view of the Agatsya lake is beautiful from the top.
Climb down the Caves and walk down the stretch towards the museum. The museum is a must visit to get an insight of the history and the restoration work having around. You will also get to know about the various excavations. There is a short trail created to get a feel of the kingdom and the site.
You can then walk down towards the famous Bhoothnath temple.
The view against the lake is mesmerizing.
The temple is beautifully places in the valley surrounded by rock and the Agatsya lake. There are different kinds of sculptures and carvings. This place is the favourite of photographers and historians. The temple has a Nandi and shiv lingaa. This would be see beautiful in the monsoon i'm sure.
The city is crowded and has very few good places to stay. I would recommend Clarks Inn and Hotel Rajsangam.
Do not miss to visit the Banshankri temple. Its 5-6 kms from Badami. You need one entire day to cover all this.
A must see !!

Badami

In Kannada Badami means almond. Since the rocks here are in brownish almond colour it has got the name Badami.
These are the natural rocks formed by cooling of volcanic lava.
The Royal dynasty Chalukyas have carved these beautiful caves to promote their art. Its unique way of carving Upside down instead of down to up.
Its beautiful piece of art worth watching. Better to hire a guide who will explain the story behind these sculpture and share interesting information. Guide will cost you Rs 500.
There are also evidences of Islamic attack on these places. You will find governor office and the accountant office built in Islamic style. Also few constructions made by Tipu Sultan. Hence this place will be useful for people interested in History, art, photographers and those who just want to admire the beauty.
The city is quiet hot and too sunny. Even though the caves are pretty cool in contrast if you prefer to roam in the city better carry hat.
Beware of monkeys. Don't leave your valuable aside even for a second especially while taking pics.
Food speciality is Jola roti(corn bread). There are few eateries near busstop. Its better to book a cab and go to this place. Be careful when you keep your luggage in the roof top carriers. Monkeys don't spare them too.

Glimpse of Ancient Hindu Temple Architecture

Badami is a historic small town in North Karnataka. A place worth visiting for its temple architecture from 5th to 8th Century AD. The Cave temple architecture from the red sandstone hills are exemplary and highlights the skill and craftsmanship of the people of that Era. The important places of Interest are Badami Caves, Banashankari Temple, Aihole, Pattadakal, Mahakuta Temple etc. Climbing the steep steps to reach the caves will be little difficult for elderly people. But the similar archtechtre can be seen at Aihole and Statical.

A feast for those people who loves art and appreciates art

I'm from Ballari a city in Karnataka, to reach Badami you need to go 'Gadag'a place which approximately 100kms away from my place. First we reached 'Gadag', Badami is 60 kms away from Gadag you need to catch up a Govt bus which requires minimum 1. 5hrs to reach Badami from Gadag.
Firstly you need to see is the Badami caves which is beautiful artwork of our ancient history, as you can see in the above pictures.
A person who is truly interested towards art and who wants to grab the details and appreciate one, Badami is the right place for those art enthusiasts.
The main disadvantage of this place is it has less number of buses to Gadag, a person who says to make a stay in Badami can do it, but one trip is bit difficult.
There many other places to be visited, the best choice and we visited was by hiring a auto who took up the responsibility of showing us places like Banashankari, Pattadakallu which is a beautiful place and must be visited atleast once in your life.
Mainly you need to be wise and carefully while choosing a auto guy, to cover Pattadakallu, and 4 other places he asks 500-600; that is reasonable price and if you want to visit iholle you need to pay him around 800/-
I had only been to Badami, pattadakal, banashankari and some two other places which is a beauty place to visit
A place which is filled with Indian art and heritage.

In detail badami aihole patadakkal

While planning a trip we realise that personal tips and experience can be a good guide to planning a good trip. I'm a budgeted traveller so time spent at a particular place is most important -to see the best without compromising on any sightseeing and yet not be cheated or spend more than its worth . . Badami. Reached here by train. The connectivity is not so good and in trains don't ply daily so choose your date accordingly. Trains run late from 15mins to 45mins . Badami aihole and patadakkal are the places to see . Budgeted yet comfortable way to see it is by rick. Hire an auto for rs 700 or rs 800 for all 3 places. Starting as early as 0530.

Badami - cave temples

Well maintained place, there are four caves - each of which have distinct history and cultural heritage. A minimal fee of 15/- (for Indians) to enter this place, you gave to be careful about monkeys here though.
From the top, you can see the bhoothnath temple, quite a great view actually.
