A Romantic Destination-Bardez

Bardez remains my favourite, but I was not knowing much about Bardez except that it is a Romantic destination. When I enquired, found a glittering back ground of this area, which is demarcated by Chapora and Mandovi rivers, Northern side and Mapusa River at Southern side respectively, which is originated from this area flows towards east, and West side is the Arabian Sea. This area is the most popular area in North Goa. It is bounded by twelve villages, and was ruled by Portuguese. At present Bardez is one of the most famous destination among the tourists, as all northern famous well developed beaches and famous land mark Fort aguada, are situated nearby, the most exciting sites like Anjuna Beach, Calangute Beach, Vagator for beach and highland for spectacular Sunset and its music festival before new year, candolim, sinquerim, Baga beaches are in close vicinity, and approach to all sites made easier by the rental services of two wheeler and four wheelers, this service provide a great liberty and freedom. The colourful Mapusa Friday market and the Wednesday market have the great attraction among the tourists. Konkani is mainly spoken language and people are known as Badescar of this area. Fully modernized airport Dabolim is situated in Vasco, is suitable for domestic and international tourist to reach this destination and Thivim is the nearest railway station. Panji is having the main bus station, named Kadamaba, is well connected by the surrounding states like Maharashta, Karnataka for to and fro journey from this destination. Many private tour and travel operator are running luxurious buses from many places having an on-line booking facility are operated from the Panji and Mapusa Road cross junction. And various resorts and Hotels are available for comfortable stay. This destination of North Goa is attracting a lot to all tourists and always ready to treat them like a king.

Bardez, Region Of North Goa.

Bardez is a name of the region in North Goa. And for this name credit goes to the migrated Brahmins from Gangetic Magadh and Aryavarta from Nothwest. May be barah means twelve and desh means country, just twelve countries, this form of land may be considered a territorial limit for Brahmins. It consists of Aldona, Moira, Olaulim, Nachinola, Siolim, Anjuna, Candolim, Serula, Saligao, Sangolda, Assagao and Pomburpa. Its limits end at North Chapora river and at south by the Mandovi river, East by Mapusa river and the West by the Arabian sea. Native is called Bardeskaar, as Bardez an Assembly seat and in the southern parish village Britona, in Serula. Many other famous sites are the fort of Aguada, the beaches of Candolim, Sinquerim, Calangute, Baga, Anjuna and Vagator villages, the hill-top monastery and boarding-school of Monte Guirim which was restored by Padre Luna after Pombal's devastation, the village communities of Salvador do Mundo, Penha da Franca, Porvorim, Colvale, Saligao and Sangolda, to name but these are the chief. Bardez is the most suitable place and destination to stay in North Goa, and has all major tourist attractions very close, now Bardez has become a landmark among the young couples and tourists.

Bardez Overview

Located in North Goa, Bardez is a taluka, which is popular for its beaches and markets. Bardez refers to ‘bara desh’, which means twelve countries. Twelve specific territorial areas, which together make the Bardez taluka, are Pombrupa, Olaulim, Anjuna, Serula, Aldona, Assagao, Moira, Machinola, Saligao, Candolim, Sangolda and Nachinola.

Bardez is delimited by Chapora River from the northern side and Mandovi River from the southern side. Mapusa River, which originates in Bardez, flows to the east of the region, while on the west of the region lays the Indian Ocean. In 1543, Bardez was under the control of the Portuguese along with Salcette and Mormugao and formed a part of the Portugal's Velhas Coquistas or Old Conquests.

Today, Bardez is one of the popular tourist destinations in Goa, with famous sites like the fort of Aguada and the beaches of Candolim, Sinquerim, Calangute, Baga and Anjuna. Big Wednesday Flea Market in Anjuna and the Friday Bazaar in Mapusa are also major tourist attractions in the region. Native people of Bardez are known as Bardezcar or Bardeskar in the Konkani language, which is the main language spoken.

Dabolim Airport is the main gateway to the destination, which is served by various domestic and international flights. Situated on the Margao-Sawantwadi rail route, Thivim Railway Station is the nearest railway station from Bardez.

Kadamba bus stand of Panaji is the main bus station, which can be used to reach Bardez. Buses from different regions of Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka operate to and from this station. The best time to visit Bardez is during the winter months, which extend from November to February.
