The Karni Land
Among all the historic dynasties of Rajasthan, Bikaner was the one of newest kingdom. The Karni Singh and his generations has ruled here some centuries. It is believed that the king of Bikaner was sibling of Jodhpur King and after a dispute he decided to establish his kingdom here. There is a lot to see and explore in Bikaner, the delicious food, royal history, temples and living generations of the dynasty. The perfect weekend gateway for Delhities and Jaipurians is totally worth of visit without burning your pocket. Bikaner is well connected by Road and Railways. Overnight buses and trains from Delhi and Jaipur vice versa runs daily.

A Trip to Bikaner
I had been to Bikaner by road in the month of November 2016. Bikaner is a must-visit attraction in the tourism circuit of Rajasthan. The must-visit attractions around Rajasthan include the iconic Junagarh Fort, Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary and the popular Jain Temple. The Junagarh Fort was constructed by Raja Rai Singh in the year 1593. The architecture used to construct this majestic fort has mixture of Gujarati, Rajput and Mughal style of architecture. The must-visit attractions inside the fort are the Hawa Mahal and the Diwan-e-khas. The Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary houses some unique plants and animals. Antelopes, Boars and bulls can be found in plenty here. Jeep Safaris and Camel Safaris take one to a wonderful journey to both the animals and migratory birds. One has to remember that both the Gajner Palace and lake are located in the precincts of this wonderful natural abode. The Jain Temple was constructed in 1514 by Bhandasa Oswal. The Jain Temple has 3 storeys and the Rajputana Architecture is reflected in its totality here. Red Sandstone and White Marble have been intricately used in the construction of this grand temple.

Bikaner a weekend destination
There is not much to see in Bikaner so ideal for a weekend trip. There are direct overnight trains from Delhi and vice versa giving you two full days. What will be on your itinerary? The beauiful Junagadh Fort; Museums - Prachina and Sardul Singh; old havelis if architecture of times gone by interest you; Laxminathji and Jain temples for the religious; Neraby excursions - Deshnok Karni Mata temple (famous rat temple); Shiv Baari, Camel Breeding Institute; Gajner sanctuary (winter destination). Unfortunately some famous palaces have been turned into hotels so not a tourist site. Pick up Camel products from their breeding Institute and bikaneri namkeen as gifts / souvenir.

Visit to Karni temple was awesome
Done nothing in Bikaner . Just visited karni mata temple. Enjoyed a lot. The temple is also known as the famous rat temple of India with many stories. Just sit in temple premises and watch the rats running, fighting, rallying, eating . Make friends with some rat and let them hold your hand for eating Prasad!
