Peaceful and serenic view

Chakrata is quite peaceful place to go. It is 84kms from Dehradun. Deoban is quite good for camping point of view. Tiger fall is also a nice place to visit. In winter this place is worthy of visiting once. There are two ways to go to chakrata, one is via Mussoorie and other is via vikash nagar.

Excellent

Excellent place to visit. A cantonment of British Indian Army, was established in 1866 by Colonel Hume of the 55th Regiment, British Indian Army, [2] and the troops and officers first occupied the cantonment in April 1869 . Chakrata is an access-restricted military cantonment, and foreigners face severe restrictions in visiting. Notably, it is the permanent garrison of the secretive and elite Special Frontier Force, also known as Establishment 22 ( called 'Two-Two'), the only ethnic Tibetan unit of the Indian Army, which was raised after the Indo-China War of 1962. Various kinds of weapons and survival training is also imparted by R&AW and other intelligence services in Chakrata, in support of various Indian foreign policy goals, especially pertaining to other countries in the Indian Subcontinent . Chakrata can be reached from Dehradun via Vikasnagar or Mussoorie. Both routes pass through beautiful mountainous road. Travelling in the monsoon can be quite tricky as the area sees frequent road blockages due to landslides

The best hill experience ever!

Road that leads to chakrata is not that good but it isn't bad either, making the trip adventurous from the start. Upon entering the small town of chakrata you'll witness something you haven't witnessed in any other hill station - solitude . No commercialization of this place yet. No hotels. Just homestays, serving the best food you can expect a place so far away from civilisation. So don't expect wide range of services from these people. Hot water, great food and cosy blankets, that will be all you can get. Plus there is a great waterfall at some higher altitude. You can go there in the morning after staying the night. This trip was amazing for us as we were on the bikes. There will be many location on the way in an out of chakrata where you just can't resist but apply brakes and walk down the road in the green valley and just stare at the beauty. One should visit this place if you have been to any popular hill stations so that you can know that the most popular are not always the best.

Perfect for an offbeat holiday

If you love to travel to offbeat places then Chakrata is a hit. This place can be reached in 3. 5 to 4 hours from Dehradun. This place is a military cantonment and hence entry of the foreigners are restricted. Taxi (Indica) charges around Rs. 3000 for drop. Hence, it is better to book a cab for the entire journey as this will be economical. If you want a shared travel then go to Vikasnagar and from there Jeeps are available for Chakrata . . Places to visit are Tiuni(around 3 hours), Deoban(around 40 minutes) and Tiger Falls(around 1. 5 hours). On the return try the road from Chakrata to Mussoorie. The road parallel to Yamuna river is awesome and must visit. Good hotel in Chakrata is Hotel Snowview . Very few eateries and Tea-stalls are available.

Place to be with yourself & nature

Heavenly and very courteous people. We visited between in the October, pleasant weather, although the nights get quite cold, but it was enjoyable. The hotel staff were friendly and always ready to help. Please do buy a packet of famous rajma . They really taste different. Also would get the glimpse of mountain warfare and drills of the Indian army and other specialized forces. A must visit if you want to relax and recharge your feelings and togetherness. I am sure you will miss every moment of it once you enter the city limits.
