Reasons to go to Chapora

1And The Scenic Chapora Fort
And The Scenic Chapora Fort

From this fort, travellers can see the Anjuna Beach, Mandarem Beach and Morjim Beach. Few scenes of a popular Hindi movie, 'Dil Chahta Hai', were shot at the Chapora Fort. HolidayIQ Traveller Jay says, "Located at a distance of 10 kms from beautiful Baga beach, this fort can be easily accessible on bike or moped and yaa bus service is not available so hiring moped is the best option. Few scenes from the super-hit bollywood movie Dil Chahta Hai were shot here(most mistaken consider the fort shown in as Aguada fort but it is this fort)."

Sleeping beach; wakes up for mid-night parties

Chapora fort: A phir "Dil Chahta hai" fort, breathtaking panoramic view around. This fort in North Goa is relatively unique - its old, abandoned(by the Govt) and less visited of the places. Yet you see people flocking this place now and then. You need to have your own vehicle to access this place. Just make sure when you are the foot of the hillock, there are some vehicles around to make sure you have some company at the top. There is absolutely nothing at the top as it is a completely abandoned fort - no wonder you see piles of beer & whiskey bottles once you reach the top. It is advisable to make it to the fort during day time(when it is not hot) and if possible in a group. Once you climb the hillock(a small trek), what you see is a big playground like area surrounded by brick walls. The view of Arabian sea is panoramic from all side. There is no end clicking photos in this location. What i loved most was the view of river joining the sea; it is mindblowing and I spent few minutes just gazing at this nature's wonder - absolutely fabulous. You can view vagator and Chapora beaches from here. I made best use of my selfie phone gadget here. If the climate is favourable(heat, breeze) you would not like to budge from this location.

Nice place to visit if you are in Goa

Chapora beach is not very popular among tourists because it is located outside of the city near Vagator. People visiting Vagator & chapora fort usually come to this beach. Very good place to play football or any other beach games. Water is not very clear as compared to the other beaches. A good place to spend time in the evening if you are visiting Vagator.

Chapora Overview

Chapora, along with adjoining Vagator beach, is one of the popular beaches of Goa known for its pristine white sands dotted with palms and rock formations of black lava. The local industry of boat building and fishing complements the tourism industry, creating a blend of the conventional and modern. Chapora is an easy point to get to other places in Goa, and is 10kms from the town of Mapusa.

A must visit while here is the Chapora Fort, a 500-year-old Portuguese fort that can be reached from the hill at Vagator. Head to the famous Baga, where you could catch the Saturday night flea market, or explore the Baga River. You could indulge in some water sports while there. Visit Anjuna and explore the beaches and food shacks there, also shop at the Wednesday flea market. Explore the town of Mapusa and look up the Mascarenhas Mansion nearby known for its beautiful windows made of stain glass and fantastic antique collection.
