Dalhousie is a beautiful hill station situated in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh. I t was established by the British as a summer retreat for troops and is named after Lord Dalhousie who was the British Viceroy for India at that time. Dalhousie is situated at 6000-9000 feet above sea level. It is built on and around five hills. Located on the western edge of the Dhauladhar mountain range of the Himalayas, it is surrounded by the beautiful scenery of snow-capped peaks. The year round weather for this beautiful hill station is pleasant and cool. It doesn’t get hot during the summers but gets quite chilly during the winters and is intermittent with mild showers during monsoons. The summer season lasts from March to May. The weather during this time is very pleasant as temperatures do not soar high at all. The maximum temperature that is recorded during summer is 26° Celsius The winter season starts during December and goes on until the end of February. The weather gets really chilly during this time. The temperature range lies between 10° Celsius and goes as low as 1° Celsius. Monsoon season lasts for three months over June, July and September. The rainfall is not that heavy and is relatively mild. The best time to visit Dalhousie would be during March and November where the weather is not too chilly and the mild showers make it pleasant and the air clears out. March to June is an ideal time for sightseeing. And the rest of the months are a treat for nature lovers.
