A forest disguised as a Capital

Itanagar is full of pleasant surprises. The best part is the people you will bump into -
Warm, Friendly and Helpful. We usually go to places for the sights it has to offer - which Itanagar has in plenty. However the people of the amazing state of Raunchily were the best part of my first ever journey to the North East of India. The warmth and friendliness of Indians nestled far away almost across borders and their love for our nation and its people will surprise you.
From a place point of view, I will highly recommend Ganga Lake, it is on the outskirt of the city but the city itself is small - so accessing it takes hardly twenty minutes. The surroundings of the lake are as good as any national park you will go to. Surprising tryst wit

Mesmerizing beauty of arunachal

Nice entry point for those who want to visit arunachal, which is full of beautiful places in mountains . The main attractions of Itanagar are a) Ganga lake be) ita fort, c) buddhist gonpa, the) museum. Adventure wise people can peep into jungle with the help of local nyishi tribals. Development of tourism areas near doimukh, nirjuli, naharlagun areas is in its very elementary stage . Best time to visit Itanagar is during February when nyukum festival of nyishis and losar festival of monpas are celebrated.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: The local rice wine called apong can be tried. Food made in Bamboo utencils and vegetables and meat cooked with Bamboo shoot are something that can be tried. Akashdeep Shopping complex and market of Naharlagun are the best places to do shopping in Itanagar. But the cost of commodity is somewhat higher.

Activities & things to do: Not much tourism development has been done till now. But people can try Fishing in Barapani, Hunting and trekking.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: A0 No rail head as of now . Harmuti is the nerest station located in Assam which is very close to Banderdewa the entry point of Arunachal. But it is not Broad gauge. pawan Hans Helicopter service and Private as well as state bus services are there. Except that People can hire taxi From Guwahati to Itanagar. Also Indian Citizens are required to produce Inner Line Permit at check Gate. So you can get it from Arunachal Bhawan Located in Delhi or Kolkata. You can get it in Guwahati as well. So please get it prepared before planning.

Itanagar Overview

Itanagar is the capital of the north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh. Owing to its mystique appeal and modern attitude, the city draws attention of tourists from round the globe. It is located in the shadow of the Himalayan ranges, which has snow covered peaks on the north-eastern side. On the other hand, the widespread stretch of the plains of the Brahmaputra River adjoins the city from the southern side.

The city is also identified as Mayapur, erstwhile capital of the Jitri dynasty, established in the 11th century. Ita Fort, the chief historic testament of the region, dates back to that era. One of the major historic testimonies, the Fort of Ita, was built during the 14th or 15th century by King Ramachandra.

Itanagar, is one of the two regions of the 'Land of Dawn Lit Mountains', the other being Naharlagun. Rich culture, tribal heritage and values dating back to several centuries are some of the most distinguished things to witness.

With a view to save regional tradition and culture, the province was restricted to tourism till few years ago. The region is a dwelling place of diversified English, Aptani, Hindi, Assamese, Nishi and Adi speaking communities.

The capital city of Arunachal Pradesh experiences subtropical weather conditions. Owing to this, it has neither extreme cold condition in winters or scorching heat in summers. Keeping in mind the weather conditions prevailing in the destination, the ideal time to visit Itanagar is between the months of October and March.
