The land of St. Angelo's Fort and Muzhappilangad Drive-In Beach

Kannur being the northern part of Kerala is definitely an off beat destination. You will rarely find rush here at the tourist spots - which are St. Angelo's Fort and Muzhappilangad Drive-In Beach.
Muzhappilangad Drive-In Beach is the longest Drive-In Beach in India and is featured among the top 6 best beaches for driving in the world, and also considered as the longest drive-in beach in Asia.
Nearest Airports:
Kozhikode International Airport - 100 km
Kannur International Airport (Under construction and will be soon ready, fingers crossed) - 25. 7 km
Nearest Towns / Railway stations :
Thalassery - 7 km
Kannur - 15 km
By road:
On National Highway 66 the beach is situated between Kannur town and Thalassery town. There are five village connection roads on the National Highway towards the beach.
On the beach you can do Quad Bike ride and it is a beautiful experience introduced by Mr. Bala Kiran, IAS, Director of Kerala Tourism, when he was erstwhile District Collector of Kannur. What an awesome idea by this dynamic personality.
Coming to St. Angelo's Fort, built in 1505 by Portuguese and later the Dutch captured the fort from the Portuguese in 1663. The fort is in the Cannanore Cantonment area. It is fairly well preserved as a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India. St Angelo's fort is a most important historical monument and a popular tourist attraction. Six Tourism Policeman are posted here for protection duty.
Ample parking space is available infront of the Fort entrance and few small shops thats all. Inside the Fort there are 2-3 small refreshment carts for some quick lime soda and chaas. There are washrooms inside the fort which are well maintained. And easily accessible.
Children from Schools should be brought here to create direct interests in History and the importance thereof.

The best Auto rickshaw service and the best bakeries

The best part about Kannur is that the auto drivers are fair. They charge you only what is due even if the meter is not turned on. This is true even in the rural areas. It is not something that we often see in Kerala.
Unlike all the misconceptions the people are really great. They are helpful to all strangers and are courteous too.
In most other parts of Kerala the bakeries do not have good quality and items are overpriced. Here all items are rich and tasty with decent prices.
The beaches are of course beautiful and peaceful, not very commercialised.
All in all a good place to visit.

A hight altitude place with a mind blowing view at the top

Palakkayam Thattu is a hill station near Naduvil Village in the Western Ghats in India. It is in Kerala state and in Kannur district. Thattu road distance is 28 km.
Nearest towns are Naduvil and Pulikurumba. The beauty of 'Palakkayam Thattu' became popular, after the District Tourism Promotion Council initiated effective steps to boost the tourists projects in the place. Located 3500 ft above sea level, it is undoubtedly one of the picturesque places in Kerala. A distance of 53 km from Kannur, the journey through the hill and scenic valleys will be a trilling and exciting one. [1]
'Palakkayam Thattu' also welcomes its visitors with its beauty and pleasant climate along with the exquisite range of flora and fauna. The also set up solar lights, sitting arrangement and walkway and a tourism circuit connecting the place with Paithalmala and Conjugally to enhance the beauty of the place.

I had visited Kannur for my friend's sister marriage during my college studies. It's one of my long

Hmm, my advice to the travellers in Kannur was near the beach it's hard to find shops for snacks and dinner like that. So be prepare yourself for that. Then check with the climate and best month to visit the place. Because you may feel the climate is so chill in Kannur. That's my opinion.

Simply superb

Hot, Humid and sweltering. But Gods own country. The only Muslim Royal family and their Museum is simply superb. The lighthouse and the Forts which the Portuguese built are really worth watching. Food is amazing and even in the hot climate you will enjoy the hot spicy food. Stay at Mascot Hotel and eat at Randhal and Coolbar . Simply superb. Take the traditional ayurvedic massage and 'must watch' Traditional Kalari.

One of the important tourist places in Kerala

I had been Kannur in the month of February 2016. Kannur is one of the important tourist places in Kerala. The must-visit attractions around Kannur include Fort St Angelos, Thalassery Fort and Ezhimala and Pythalmala. Fort St Angelos is located on the west of Kannur and was built in 1505 and is a protected monument under control of the ASI. The Thalassery fort has ventilated walls and strong bastions. Ezhimala is located 38 kilometers north of Kannur and is a cluster of hills. This place is well-known for medicinal herbs. Pythalmala is located 4500 feet above sea level and situated and is located 65 kilometers from Kannur Town .
