Our short vacation destination to Kihim beach, Maharashtra!

We planned a short vacation of 2 nights stay at Arte Cottage in Kihim beach in Maharashtra with family and our pet Labrador dog 'Tiger' along. Kihim is approximately 105kms by road from Thane where we reside. We left by our car on 4th January'2017 morning at around 9am in the morning from our Thane (W) residence & managed to reach Arte Cottage, Kihim around 2. 30pm in the afternoon with two haultage in between as Tiger was with us & he needed a break! The road is not all that good in between due to lack of maintenance so would suggest to avail steamer services available daily every one hour onwards from Gateway of India, Colaba, Mumbai starting from 7am onwards in the morning which reaches Kihim in an hour's time max! You have both AC & Non AC Steamers offering you transfer just for Rs 100/- per passenger (Non AC) & Rs 150/- per passenger (for AC Steamers) . Arte Cottage is a small, cozy & clean property owned by Ms. Priya Arte & her husband Mr. Virendra Arte. There are total 4 double rooms here. We were given the room called 'Sand' which is slightly bigger in size & in p

Kihim Overview

Kihim is situated in the district of Raigad in the state of Maharashtra. This place is famous for Kihim Beach, which is located close to the city of Alibaug. The Kihim Beach is very clean, with scenic surroundings and coconut trees. Tourists coming to Kihim can enjoy tent holidays, which take care of tourists’ needs by offering requisite modern facilities.

Kihim Beach also features isles of Underi and Khanderi that are known for their sea ports. These sea ports are managed by the Mumbai Port Trust, which generally does not grant permission for visiting the isles. The Khanderi Fort was constructed in 1672 by Shivaji Maharaj, who was opposed by British so as to gain monopoly over Mumbai.

Later on in 1867, a lighthouse was constructed near this fort for guiding mariners during night. Kihim is surrounded by various small fishing villages and is a popular spot for watching several species of birds. The village of Kihim can be easily reached by taking ferries or boats from Mumbai and other neighbouring ports.

Flights till Mumbai International Airport are the most suitable option for travelling to Kihim, which is located at around 100 km from the village. Panvel Railway Station is the closest railway station from Kihim which is situated at a distance of 85 km from the village. State transport buses and taxis are regularly available from Mumbai, Alibaugh, Panvel and other nearby cities, for getting to the destination. The best time to travel to Kihim is between December and February when the weather is cool and pleasant.
