Lahaul and Spiti are situated in the northeast of Himachal Pradesh. It is surrounded by Jammu and Kashmir to the north and Tibet to the east. The valley of Lahaul is situated to the south of Ladakh. Summer months extend from May to mid October. It seldom rains during these months. The maximum temperature can reach up to 30º Celsius and the minimum temperature can fall down to 15 º Celsius. The days are warm to hot and the nights are cold. Light woollens are recommended to stay warm at night. There is continuous sunshine during the day and the valley appears alive and lush green. Trekkers and mountain climbers can enjoy this climate and explore the beauty of the valley. The winter season lasts from November to April. The temperature falls below freezing often and the average snowfall is about 7 feet. Heavy snow closes the passes and the region is isolated from the world. There is little tourism during these months. The best time to visit Lahaul and Spiti is in the summer months i.e. from mid May to mid October. The pass is accessible and the climate is moderately cold. There is little rainfall and so tourists can enjoy uninterrupted sunshine and take in the beauty of the surroundings. Trekkers and mountain climbers can enjoy the months between July to September the most when the valley has little to no rain and bright days.
