Weather was supposed to be clear but got affected due to a cyclone in the Bay of Bengal. My tickets and hotel bookings were done months back, hence had no choice to cancel/reschedule. Especially train tickets to NJP is scarce in October . Food and Shopping: Shopping was good in HongKong market in Silliguri where we decided to halt a day before arrival just for shopping. Food in the Lolegaon Hotel (Resort Tree Fern) was horrible. Do not be fooled by the reviews that was made years back. It had become pathetic now . Highlight of the trip: Nature is always unexpected and so it the punctuality of the Indian Railways and road conditions in North Bengal. I have been to other hill stations in HP and Uttarakhand. Surprised by the great road conditions and thus more disappointed how dirty politics could ruin the fate of a region. The best example is J&K but reasons there are more severe than gross negilgence by governments Nature however delivered as per expectation (as long as they are realistic). Good weather, fire place and lazy days are what I seek for. The view of a snow clad mountain during sunrise or sunset just makes it worth and takes me to another world fulfilled with happiness.

Lolegaon Overview

A small offbeat destination in the northern part of West Bengal, 123 km from Siliguri, 24 km from Lava and 54 km from Kalimpong, Lolegaon lies at an altitude of 1850 m above sea level. Lolegaon is basically a tiny Lepcha village also known as Kafer and has recently been introduced as a tourism place in the state of West Bengal, offering views of the Eastern Himalayan snow ranges.

Lolegaon is ideal for travellers looking forward to spend a leisure holiday enjoying the views of Mt. Kanchenjungha, Mt. Pandim and others. Located on top of a flat hill, Lolegaon is famous for its panoramic views of the Himalayas. A very important spot to look out for in Lolegaon is Jhandidara which is a wooded top of a hill and it offers views of all the peaks of Mt. Kanchenjunga and Mt. Everest.

Tourists can avail accommodation at the forest rest houses as well as many private hotels and take part in activities like sightseeing, trekking, bird watching or taking a nature walk. There is also a provision for an exclusive ‘Canopy Walk’ through the ancient Cypress and mossy Oak of the Heritage Forest.

This forest is also the home to some Himalayan species of mountain goats and black bear along with other rare species of butterflies, birds and orchids. Other places to see include the green valley of Ralli. Besides, tourists can also venture out to nearby places like Kalimpong, Lava and Samthaha.

Lolegaon can be visited throughout the year. But it is better to avoid the monsoon season from July to early September when leeches are a very big problem in the area.
