Found a good hotel in a quiet locality of the busy town

Konkan crown resort and club was a hotel with a spa and swimming pool. Very large rooms. Surprising in a place like Sawantwadi which has only lodges and modest hotels.

A beautiful and serene town close to Goa

It's a very beautiful town you should not visit during your Goa trip. The centre of the town is an artificially created lake and there are walking space around this lake and lot of space to sit and relax during evening or till night ... The place looks amazingly beautiful and there are lot of attractions nearby as well. The entire location will be chilled during most of the months. Night life would be very beautiful as well.

Sawantwadi Overview

Sawantwadi is a taluka situated in Sindhudurg District, in the state of Maharashtra. During ancient times, it was the capital city of the Royal Kingdom of Sawantwadi. Sawantwadi also serves as one of the gateways to Goa. Sawantwadi is surrounded by the Western Ghats on the east and the Arabian Sea on the west.

Sawantwadi derived its name from the earliest ruling family of the state, Khem-sawants. Situated on the top of Narendra Hill, the Sawantwadi Palace is the main attraction of the destination. The palace was constructed between 1755 and 1803 by Khem-sawant III. In 1874, Moti-Talao or Talao Lake was built in front of the palace for enhancing its beauty. The destination was also ruled by the Bhonsale clan during the pre-independence era.

The Sawant Bhonsale Dynasty played an important role in funding and supporting the craft village, which led to the development of villages. The folk arts of the region such as Sindhudurg Dashavatar and dance ritual dramas are widely popular.

The art and craft of the destination can be seen in its wooden toys, traditional art paintings, chitrakathi and bamboo and pottery art. Konkani, Marathi, Urdu and English are some of the popular languages spoken in Sawantwadi.

Sawantwadi is also famous for its rich biodiversity, which comprises wildlife species including bison, leopards, wild boars and tigers and medicinal herbs and trees.

The destination is connected with air, rail and road transport from various locations. The nearest airport to reach Sawantwadi is Dabolim Airport in Goa. It is located at a distance of around 85 km from Sawantwadi.

Sawantwadi Railway Station renders services from various cities such as Pune, Madgaon, Mumbai and Delhi. State owned buses are available for reaching Sawantwadi from major towns and cities of Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Tourists can visit this place round the year, except during the monsoon months.
