Shillong : The Scotland of the East

Do you need more reasons to make a plan for spending an weekend to this picturesque beauty Here are some informations to help you : . . How to reach? Nearest railhead or airport is Guwahati. Take a cab to reach Shillong by 3. 5 hours (100 km). When to visit? Except the monsoon months you can be there throughout the year. It will be chilly in the winter months Where to go? Beside the city tour and a day long trip to Cherapunji don't forget to keep an extra day to visit Mawlynnong, a small village, famous for its matriarchal society and for being declared as the cleanest village in Asia. Hidden Gem of Meghalaya

Shillong is truly a hidden gem of India. Hidden in the beautiful, but not a very frequently visited state of Meghalaya, its truly a beautiful place. Being from Bombay, one of the things I noted first was that how clean the city was - not a single piece of trash on the streets (such a welcome change! ). At literally every few meters, I could see cute little unclasped dustbins. My one day visit to Cherrapunji and the surroundings on the outskirts of the city are also worth a mention. All in all, my one-week stay here was nothing short of it being a peaceful and refreshing one.

Exotic

Meghalaya is blessed by nature . This place has it all to be in the bucket list of every nature lover . Lush forests, hills, rivers, waterfalls, caves etc. Monsoons make it even more beautiful. Plus the different lifestyle, culture, and traditions of khasi people offer something new and rich for the tourists who care to observe . . Only state in India where you can find the now famous living root bridges across rivers and streams. Want to visit again in future.

Must visit place in North East

1. Why to visit?

It is by far the best Hill station in North East India to visit throughout the year. With great places and eating joints Shillong can be a much needed weekend getaway kind of trip.

2. Must Visit Places.

Elephant falls, Don Bosco and Air Force Museums, Shilling view point, Umiam lake, shilling view point and local parks are much popular and worth visiting.

3. Local food and shopping.

Shillong and Dylan's Cafe are too good. Dejavu, City hut Dhaba, Ginger resto are also very good. Sky bar and Tango bar are worth visiting. The local food shops at Police bazaar are also good. For local shopping Police bazaar can be explored. For branded shopping mall is available and stores are also available.

4. Activities.

The local peaks can be explored and capturing this place is altogether a different experience. Taxi can be hired for visiting nearby places like Cherrapunji, Elephant Falls, Umaim lake and local parks and museums.

5. Advice.

Taxi can be hired for visiting places. Must carry a camera for making this trip memorable. Rest everything is perfect about this beautiful place.

Shillong

Born in the laps of nature, Shillong is the capital of Meghalaya and offers every one of its bequeathed element for exploration to the wanderlust.
Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, is the home to numerous waterfalls. The exciting mountain peaks, crystal clear lakes, breathtakingly beautiful golf courses, museums and the zoo are the key reasons why people visit Shillong. Apart from the natural beauty, Shillong also acts as the gateway to Meghalaya, the state famous for heavy rainfalls, caving, tallest waterfalls, beautiful landscapes and amazing people and culture. Shillong in particular has been in limelight for its jovial people and their culture. Interestingly, Shillong has a very westernized culture and it has a very young feel to it. Shillong is also famous as the music capital of India, as many prominent musicians have hailed from this place. Many music events keep happening throughout the year, making it a very lively place.
