One of the least explored national parks of India

This is the largest National Park of Odisha. Similarly includes a Tiger Reserve consisting of around 90 Royal Bengal tigers, number of small and large waterfalls, many precious trees and several flora and fauna. Barehipani waterfall which is the second highest waterfall is situated inside this park.
The most visit places inside the park are Barehipani falls (1308 feet), Joranda Falls, Chahala (elephants), gurguria etc. Some peripheral attractions like Ramatirtha, Sitakund, Lulung, Hitching also can be included in the trip.
No food is available inside the park hence it is recommended to take your own food and water. You will find some local tribal market inside the park where you can buy some tribal stuffs and can buy some tribal foods but these markets run on weekly basis hence not open everyday. If you are taking the Pithabata entry gate don't forget to eat 'Mudhi-Mansa' (puffed rice with mutton curry) at Baripada.
You can do trekking (inquire about this in entry gate), swimming in the streams flowing through the park (Do take advice form your guide), sightseeing etc. Inside the park. Just keep cool and do enjoy the beauty of the nature. Don't expect to spot a tiger as the park is huge and it is extremely difficult to spot wild animals but if you are lucky there is no surprise if you spot tigers or elephants.
Hire a good travel guide at the entry gate (mandatory), Don't roam around in core area of the forest, Don't jump into the water if you don't know swimming, take your own food, try to enter the park early in the morning so that you can cover all the attractions before evening.

Some unforgettable moments

One of the lesser travelled destination can surprise you with the secrets hidden inside. Located hardly at a distance of 90 km. From Jammshedpur it has got two entry points from Jasipur and Baripada in Odisha. The forest department also conducts package Tours, the details of which can be obtained from the OFFICE OF THE FIELD DIRECTOR, SIMLIPAL TIGER RESERVE CUM, PHONE 06792-252593 or through e-mail. Com The dense sal forest is bound to cast a spell of magic on you the moment you enters from the Kaliani gate as you have got the feel of dense mystic forest ready to surprise you any time. There are different spots specially inside the biosphere reserve open for visitors include Chahala, Joranda and Barehipani and you can have the magnificent view of a waterfall from the log hut at Joranda. If you are opting for the package offered by the forest department, you will be provided launch en route in a village located in the buffer zone of the park limit, prepared by a village self help group. The simple food offered in plates made up of the fresh sal leaves are definitely going to add up your forest experience by many miles. The best sight of animal sighting is Chahala, where a salt lick is managed by the forest department and invariably some animals are attracted to that provides you an opportunity for sighting of animals specially cheetals, hog dears, peacocks and wild boars. The resting camp at Jamuani is well equipped with no. Of Bungalows, tent houses and log huts and you can have a bonfire to add up some more fun to your wild tour.

Experience at Simlipal

This is a great destination for wildlife enthusiasts. Far far from the maddening crowd, Tosali Jungle Resort and Simlipal offer an unique experience of stay, food, wildlife and the local Odia hospitality A trip to the Hitching temple, the evening before the safari day and early morning at Ramtirath (the resort complex and the crocodile project) will keep your camera rolling The candle light tea and snacks and a small drink on the veranda of the resort in the very lap of Odisha wilderness is an experience that one cannot forget.

Excellent offbeat destination

Calm and quite environment. Excellent journey for them who hate crowd. Its an wonderful natural environment where the backward tribes live. Photographers will get a good opportunity to take shots of wonderful landscapes. Here is a short video where me with my 4 friends went to spend a day . Youtube. Com/watch?

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: No food is available within 10-15 km radius of the jungle. Even you cant get a shop selling Mineral Water.

Activities & things to do: The gate remains open till 5pm. So try to start your journey at least at 10 am. Tickets are required to enter in the jungle which is available at the main gate.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: From Baripada, Orissa, its about 30 km road distance. There is no bus or other public vehicle connection. Only way to hire a car from Baripada or using your own car. There is no hotel within 10-15 kms. So always carry plenty of food and water. Small cars are not allowed inside the jungle. If you have SUV, then you have to get a tour guide (which is mandatory) with you. Otherwise you have to hire a SUV from Baripada and the driver himself will be the tour guide.

If you are thinking to see lot of animals . Then it is a wrong choice as govt have closed all interior points to view animals. Not even much variation in flora and fauna. But overall an average experience

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Nothing special. do not miss the elephant ride

Activities & things to do: campfire at night.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: balasore station to simlipal is about 5 hrs journey. so plan accordingly. cars are available near station for rent but u need to negotiate the rate.

Frustating Simlipal Tour

Visited Simlipal Forest during December 2011 with family, frustrated jungle safari covering 160 kms to and fro journey with zig-zaj muddy and dusty road, no sight of animals even at the core area of the forest, most of the forest habited by peoples on the safari rout and covered under various government welfare schemes, frequent disruption created by naxal movement ( may loose your precious days by not getting permit to enter the forest due to naxal movement), chances of seeing domesticated goat, cow, dog & buffalo inside the forest. I advise visit other places instead of Similipal.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Nil

Activities & things to do: None

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: From Tata 115 kms by road.... excellent road condition.
