Manipal is the modern and multi-cultural side of Udupi. Its this canteen which serves the famous Chicken Sukka, a family recipe of the original chefs at this establishment. Chicken in a spicy grated coconut masala, eat it to know what it is.

Sagar: There are lovely beaches such as Kaup and Malpe near to Udupi. The Sri Krishna Mutt is good to visit. We had a good time at Kaup, Malpe and St. Mary Island. The food was also good.

HolidayIQ reviewer Subramanyam says, "This island is one just beautiful place to visit. The island has one side of the shore completely with sea shells and another side with sand and stones."

HolidayIQ reviewer Sreejesh says, "This island is few kilometers away from Malpe beach in Udupi, Karnataka. There is a boat service which costs Rs. 200 to get there and return on the same boat with a one hour halt. The place has great view of the Arabian Sea. The west side of the beach is filled with sea shells instead of sand, so the water is crystal clear. East side is more deep and has black pebble stones and sand."

Udupi Overview

Sixty kilometers from Mangalore, is the temple town of Udupi, famous for its Krishna temple established in the 13th century by the great Sanskrit philosopher, Madhavacharya. The temple attracts pilgrims from all over India and is also a centre for the Dvaita philosophy. Udipi is also the district headquarters and is the third-most important city of Karnataka, after Bangalore and Mangalore. The economy is based on agriculture and fishing, as well as small scale industries such as food processing, dairy and cashew production. It is also developing into a hub for the software industry. Udipi is synonymous with the world-famous Udipi cuisine, which is served all over India in the efficiently-run Udipi restaurants, famous for dosas, idlis and other snacks. The tradition of this cuisine started in the great kitchens of the Krishna Temple which serve meals in the form of prasada to the thousands of devotees who come to pray at the holy shrine.
