We had been for a family holiday for 4 nights during the first week of October 2014. This was the third visit at Old Anchor, but learnt that it was now known as The Byke - Old Anchor. Booking was done through the net and we got a good package deal. We drove in from Bangalore and check-in was relatively smooth Location: As I said this was our third stay at old anchor. Reason being its Excellent Location. The Sea with Cavelossim Beach on one side and River Sal on the other Front Office: Front Office was average and needs some improvement. Was much more efficient and friendly during my earlier visits Room: Accommodation was spacious with a living room, bedroom and a small annexe. Rooms and Toilets were clean and there were individual AC for the bedroom and Living room. Extra bed - Only mattress was supplied without a cot. Hint:ask for first floor rooms as they have a view of the sea or river. Small 32" TV with Airtel DTV was available The landscaping was good and well maintained Facilities: There was a large swimming pool and an activity room with a billiards table, a t table and some carom boards. There is a Discotheque available which was functional and weekend entertainment provided through Karaoke and a one man band. The downside: It was obvious that they were not geared up for the sudden off season holiday rush due to large number of holidays in the first week of October. The holiday was partially spoilt as Sprucing up activities for the season commenced during our visit (Swimming pool shut down for the last 3 days of our visit for maintenance, defunct billiards table with torn Baize and a nonfunctional TT Table in the games room, in short the Activity centre was in a total state of disrepair). Considering the Hotel was booked out from 2nd to 5th October, they should have ensured that all facilities were available and geared up for an early start to the season though there can be no excuse for the sad state of affairs in the Activity room. Room service was a disaster. In fact, 75% of the shops were closed and even the beaches had no shacks and construction of shacks had just commenced. We were informed that season starts with Diwali and would go full swing only in November Food: Unfortunately, as stated earlier the hotel was totally unprepared for the huge rush and dining was chaotic, the first two days though the staff was striving to meet the demand. Pure Veg food was served and though Choice was limited, specially the dessert, food quality was good. Mr. Suman had to be complimented for maintaining his equanimity despite the chaos and harsh words from the guests while striving to ensure items were replenished without too much delay. Food was not too expensive and helping were quite large The beach: The beach is just across the property and was clean and not very crowded. We had a nice time on the beach though the Water sports was very expensive and there were no shacks up Another plus point to the location was that it was a short drive followed by a short walk to the point where River Sal meets the Sea Final conclusion: One lesson learnt is definitely do not go to Goa very early in the season and the byke has to definitely improve in the quality of service.
one place where I would just like to be out on Beach. with nature still in its untouched beauty, place is awesome to take long walks or just lie down by the beach side day long. Nearby shacks add to the comfort. Also a good place to do watersports like parasailing, water scooters or ride into the sea on Banana Boats. But all this outside the resort. Resort in itself has a nice and relaxing atmosphere but thats it. Much desired in terms of food and staying place. Go if you want to be staying out of resort only. Try and take B category row houses on the front side.
Best Experience: Water sports was a real good fun. Also had a nice time just relaxing on the beach front on the relaxing chairs provided by the shacks.
Worst Experience: Room conditions had a lot to be desired considering its a 4 star resort. Maybe if I would have gone to a unrated Hotel, would not have mind that. Food is another area where could have enjoyed more.
We went to this resort to enjoy the solitude of South Goa while not losing out on the "fun in the air" life in Goa. Alas, we only got the solitude. That's partly because of resort's location (extreme South Goa, the road on which the resort is loacted, ended after 2 KMs more) and partly because the season of our visit (Mid-August, monsoon season). If one has to just laze around and do nothing throughout the vacation, this can be a good place. However, if one intends to make this a base location and visit different parts of Goa, this is not the place to be. On top of this, the food is very-very ordinary. The best meal we had throughout our stay were the breakfasts (bread, omelette etc. This should give an idea about the food quality) !!!
Best Experience: Virtually secluded beach at this time of the season...Very calm & peaceful
Worst Experience: Food...Distance from other parts of Goa
It was good and relaxing staying, I would like to stay there again. Everything was good there. Rooms were clean, service was good. WiFi was working properly. I liked it. You should also stay there when you go to Goa. Calm area and staff was good and helpful.
This is the best resort for vegetarians and the best bang for buck. What else would you want when this resort covers almost 20 acres of outdoor landscape with such luscious green and attractive lawns which were very well maintained when I visited this place in June. The food is just mouth watering and I could spend the entire month here if I had the time. Loved the river side dining and the outdoor activities provided by this resort, I'd recommend this hotel for family and business travellers too. I tried para sailing here for the first time. Rooms were overall clean and the beds looked new. The only one thing I would like to point out is that this resort is just too big and takes time to walk from the beach to the rooms. I will definitely visit again.
