Guided by other reviewers, I called up the Hotel to confirm my reservation (done through MMT) and they confirmed it.
While travelling, I kept on calling them regarding my position and ETA. We got stuck due to the Flower Show) Karthik was very courteous and sounded very helpful all the time. On reaching, they told that they are upgrading me to Grandeur room. Since I am staying only for 1 night, they could do it- probably to maintain continuability with other guests. Good for me!
However, they also told non-chalantly that there is a power cut daily at 8-10 am. Since their backup system has some problem, we have to live with it. I wished to see some attempts from their side to rectify it- but, there was none!
Their infrastructure is pretty good, of course, no comparison to Taj, my next halt. They do not have much open space except the parking lot- which gives a very good view of the hills. The children's play area is at an elevated place, next to the DG set, which I found rather dangerous place!
Food is very good. I was on a Breakfast + Lunch/Dinner package. The amount of Dinner cap set at 1500/- was pretty decent given the rates they have.
The room, after the upgrade, was pretty large with separate shower & toilet. However, the toilet was stinky and the basin in the shower was not flowing smooth- soaking us everytime we used it. The room didn't have proper ventilation as well. So, they happily provided us a pedestal fan, when requested.
If I am travelling next time, I would stay in this hotel if I have plans to be outdoor most of the time and come back only for dinner. I'd also check on the room before checking in / booking.
Best Experience: Helpful front office staff- Karthik The room itself (apart from the restroom stuff)
Worst Experience: Power-cut (and no backup) from 8-10am
Awesome location and could be a nice place to cool off from recently acquired hot Bangalore weather. Tea estates, lake, small market makes Coonoor a better place than Ooty for people who want to get away from traffic & busy life of city like Bangalore. MGM is approx 2 kms before Coonoor but again a nice location with nice rooms. Though in terms of amenities they can improve and should raise the standard to meet other MGM properties. I had to ask for milk thrice before they could actually provide. Services otherwise is just okay and there is lot to improve, especially when making north Indian cuisines. Road to Coonoor is tough with 36 hairpin turn but with nice view and even you could get to see wild animals while passing through the woods.
Hotel is conveniently located. Very close to Coonoor railway station and bus stand. Property is beautiful and well maintained. Rooms are spacious with a beautiful view. Beds are cosy and clean. We opted for Grandeur room. Best rooms are 101, 201 and 301. But hotel doesn't have any lift facility. So one should choose rooms accordingly. There is a restaurant in the ground floor. Food is good but choices are limited. Hotel staff are cordial and try to help but they lack professionalism and promtness to a certain extent. Manager Mr. Ravi is very helpful. Our overall experience was pleasant.
Our Family had visited Ooty 3 months back. There we stayed at MGM Resort. Its worth to stay there. The food is excellent and the courtesy the staff extended was warm welcoming. The journey was really awesome because it's a hill station, we enjoyed to the core, early morning you can see the nature scenes. Nice rooms and well maintained. The hotel people guided us very well. Coonoor is peaceful when compared to Ooty.
There was no problem to find the resort. The resort has its own parking area. There was no delay in check-in or check-out. Appearance wise the resort was decent, not too bad. The surroundings were amazing. The railway station as well as mountain view was seen from the room allocated to me. The staff there behaved in a very decent manner. The food was very tasty, we could order what we wished to have. The hotel does arrange for a bonfire if requested.
