I will directly start with the Pros and Cons . . So Pros:. Low Budget hotel. Very near to the main Mahabaleshwar market. Good services. Cons :. No WiFi. If you're a non vegetarian, probably you won't like the food. No AC room ( But who wants AC in Mahabaleshwar ). Overall, If you find every other hotels full, Mahabaleshwar palace won't disappoint you.
I just recently visited this place with my family. As we have not booked any hotel in advance so we were just searching a nice hotel near the main market. We looked at this hotel sun city, it was at a perfect location, so we decided to stay in it. At the time of check-in I specifically told at the reception that I want an AC room, they also showed me one. It was a decent room and we just have to stay for the night so we rented it. We kept our luggage there and went for sightseeing. After coming back in the night, we were very tired so we entered the room . . To our surprise the AC was not working. We tried to call at reception, no one answered. Then I have to go down at the reception and manually bring some room service guy to start it. But the person at there with some specs probably the manager, he started to talk very rudely that you paid for a non AC room we cannot start the AC. He was talking very loud and was not accepting his mistake. I was very tired and was not in a mood to create some scene. In the end I said just start it and take some extra money, again he replied the AC is not working of that room. Seriously I was very disappointed by the behavior of that guy. So at last we have to sleep without A/C. Again when we ordered some milk, it takes 20-25 minutes to bring just 2 glasses of plain milk and that too with 2 reminders. I have not seen such a worst service in any hotel.
Not worth the stay and tariff charged by the hotel
Visited Mahabaleshwar with family in first weekend of March 2015. Booked the hotel through a travel site. Stayed in Room No. 302 on top floor for 2 nights. My first thought about the hotel is that its standard is not outright bad but it just does not warrant the steep tariffs that it charges. It is basically a little more than a home stay arrangement that aspires to be counted as a hotel and is keen on taking advantage of the tourist rush in Mahabaleshwar It is located in Bhilare village in Panchgani. So, it is not in Mahabaleshwar, but about 18 km from there. It is tucked away about a km from the main road. You do need your transport to move about. There are nearly no other hotels in that village. All the rooms in the hotel are well constructed, facing east and the valley on the rear side and facing west on the front side. They are well ventilated and our room was well maintained. You need to be on the 2nd or 3rd floor to have a vantage view of the valley, though The main weakness of the hotel is it's kitchen, which is very basic. In a place like Mahabaleshwar, where even a roadside eating joint serves ice-cream with strawberry, this place failed to serve any ice-cream during the two days. The second day, they served Cornetto cones! When you have children in the group, you do feel bad that they cannot have ice-cream in the hotel they have chosen for a vacation stay. They failed to provide an extra bed for the children. Instead, they gave rugs to sleep on the floor. Though the room had a sofa cum bed, it had broken some time back and was not usable as a bed. Hence, guests have to sleep on the floor! This is not acceptable given the tariff rates that the hotel charges The staff is courteous but skeletal. So you have the person who cleans your toilets in morning, serve you your evening snacks at room service. The hotel does not have a dining hall/ restaurant. There is some mention about its strawberry orchard in the travel site reviews. I did not find it a speciality since you will find it in plenty of places in Mahabaleshwar The height was during check-out. Since I had booked through a travel site, they refused to give me a bill. They cautioned that if I asked for one, I would have to pay the taxes, which are extra. I was astonished. On asking for the food bill, they handed me a piece of rough note paper with the details scribbled in Hindi !! I paid up and left in disgust.
This was my worst vacation with family. Will never suggest anyone to go for this accommodation.
Best Experience: There wasn\'t any thing pleasant here. The hotel authority is here only for making money. Third class customer service.
Worst Experience: - We reached in hotel at 5.30 am in the morning where we had to wait till 9.30 am at the reception to get the room. My wife & son were sleeping on chair for 4 hours after tiring journey which was really bad - There was no clarity on the sightseeing schedule. When asked the hotel authority, he advised that they would be informing of the same & the 1st day sightseeing started at 3.00 pm & ended at 6.00 pm, only 3 hours in entire day - The next day sightseeing started at 9.30 am & ended at 2.00 pm, the time was very short to spend some time on any of the point as the driver wanted to reach the hotel at 2.00 pm anyhow - The package was offered to me including my son but the hotel authority were insisting me to pay extra charges for my son for 2 days.
One of the most worst experience in Mahabaleshwar. 1st of all please don't stay in this hotel if you are planning to go in monsoon. Let me explain one by one. Location is the best pros for this hotel. Its in the main market and just in 1 minutes walking distance from ST Bus stand. Regarding Cleanliness, the hotel stuffs should be trained well how to clean a room. The complete room (wall, bed, pillow, blanket)was full of fungus due to rain may be but the authority told us "This is common in Monsoon and you have to adjust in it" but they never tried to clean it and after literally pushing them they replaced our pillow and blanket. Regarding the amenities, lamp shade was broken, dressing table lamp was not working, tube in the bathroom was not working. If you push the flush of the toilet, water was coming out of the flush every time and spread all over the floor. Wash basin tap was moving like compass when someone tried to open it. The most worst thing is the power backup. Though they told us that it will be provided from 7 am to 10 am and from 7 pm to 11 pm. But Unfortunately every time power back up was started after lots of screaming to start it. Most horrible thing is, if you are in hotel after 10 am and the power cut happened then you have to stay in complete dark room or you have to use your own Mobile flashlight because they will not provide you at least a candle and the window was blocked from the outside tightly. So no light in the room and as it is after 10 am they will not start the power backup. Stuff behavior is not friendly at all. Only 2 stuff one supporting stuff and the young person in the reception behaved very well. But rest of the stuff should learn how to behave with the customer (specially the support stuff with white mustache). Within our stay, one group of school boys booked the hotel and it's really became headache to the other customer of the hotel, those really illiterate school boys started knocking the door from 5:30 in the morning, opening and closing the collapsible door of the lift unnecessarily, screaming in the corridor, fighting, jumping in the bed in the above floor. But my point is, the authority didn't take any action to them to stop this. They were just sitting idle and seeing with a smiling face as some circus was going on there. Another most dangerous thing they did was the drinking water. On the first day I was asked if I need regular water. When I say yes, the old support stuff (with white mustache) pour the normal tap water from the wash basin of the common toilet and gave it to us. They didn't have at least a water purifier. The common washroom for the waiting customer is another horrible experience. There was no light, not cleaned at all and flush was not working. So overall its not a very pleasant experience, the thing is that if authority looks into this very small but most required need of the customer then they can get really very good feedback. Only the good point I got, I accidentally broke a glass but they didn't charge to us for that. And our return bus was late, so they allow us to sit in there common area for next 2 hours.
