Well, this was my second stay at Chariot. The first time over was a fab time and I had gone with the same expectations. Well, unfortunately and sadly the place was no where close to what it was. The food is stunning at the hotel and that is the only thing that is good. The rooms were messy when handed over to us. The service for simple things like ice and water took hours. They won't allow you to drink or eat by the pool - I mean, we haven't come to learn swimming there. We have come to enjoy. Without food and drinks how does one enjoy Every service waiter said a new rule - some one said last order for room service is 10PM someone said 2PM and someone said - we don't do food in room service. The room cleaning was not done till you don't call 7-8 times - that also in a half hear ted manner. But to top it all - there is a F&B manager who stole the show. From shouting, being rude and also pulling up a fight with the customers - he did it all. When I was leaving the hotel - there was a crowd of about 20 people ready to almost kill this guy. Someone wanted to call the police, someone wanted to beat him up- because of this unprofessional and unwarranted fellow - someone did not had breakfast, someone did not had dinner, children were sleeping in hungry For any one going to Puri - don't go here. While everything looks pretty - it's tardy from the inside. Go and stay at smaller hotels may be and that could be more fun. And to the Owner Mr. Panda and Mr. Mishra - if I remember correctly - Throw this person out. Only take bookings till where your staff can handle it. Otherwise, this hotel for sure is going down.
It was a nice stay in Chariot. The appearance was very good and just beside the sea. The food served was also good and cheap. We spent a good time in gym also, which I most enjoyed is the pool as I spent a lot of time there. Also we had a pool side party at night, that was amazing. Our group enjoyed that. In short it was good time and money worthy stay at hotel chariot.
1st the good points: Chariot resort n spa is a beautiful property, right from the entrance, the portico, lobby, terrace, poolside, back side, the balcony all look beautiful. very tastefully done, the design perhaps remind of a Mediterranian resort. sea is also visible from the 2nd floor. well maintained garden. tasteful interiors of the terrace area n lobby. the complimentary breakfast is quite good. it's a buffet arrangement n a good n abundant spread. . pool is such that adults n kids can all enjoy, they charge a 100 bucks for the swimming trunks/costumes. the rooms r okay no complains as such. now let's talk abt the negative points. first n foremost the location is dampener, more than the distance, the condition of the road which is without lights, completely deserted kuchcha road makes u feel caged in the hotel as u cannot go out n explore the city at your own free will. they provide a complimentary bus service but that's only from 5 pm to 8 pm. drops n picks u from a city point. if u want to go at other times, be prepared to pay a hefty charge to the hotel travel desk. although the distance between the hotel n the main city centre is less than 4 km, u feel u r completely secluded. as a result, yr fooding is completely dependent on the hotel menu n u end up spending a lot more, than u wud hve at a more conveniently located hotel. Coming to the rooms they r fine no issues but the bathrooms r outdated n have severe drainage issues. if u take a shower, it creates a mess n mind u, it was same in all the 4 rooms we had booked, so surely not an exceptional case. n 2 bathrooms only had boiling hot water coming, a call to house keeping n a plumbers arrival solved the matter, but it means regular maintainence is not done. Found out from the locals, Chariot earlier functioned with some other name, n it is bring upgraded . so the reality is, when u book their deluxe room (that is the basic room) u r being alloted a section that belongs to the old resort n has not been renovated, so u get an awful bathroom, a just abt okay room, the house keeping staff cleaned the bathroom but i suppose missed cleaning the basin. the toileteries r cheap ones, no mini fridge in the room. Had an uninvited visitor in the form of a rat at around 10:30 pm (aprox). called house keeping but no one bothered to come, the result was evident the next morning, a couple of clothes bore the brunt of the visit. there r mosquitoes in the room, inform the room service they say will send 'all out' but nothing comes. the food is overpriced to the quantity served. there were 11 of us, n even if u order two tables order the same dish, they will bring all together, ask them to bring separately n the delay makes the other stuff go cold. the gym which hardly has much stuff, inquire abt using it n one staff says can't use the gym, a bit of hard talk n senior staff opens the gym, so clearly lack of co ordination. the spa still doesnt function. if u want to go the sea beach near the hotel be prepared to walk a dangerous wooden plank, this needs immediate attention from the hotel which is spending so much on renovation. the pool cud have been cleaner. renovation work is going on, so that was also an eyesore.
Best Experience: the property looks beautiful especially the facade...the patio, the terrace, the pool side portion.
Worst Experience: the bathrooms r not upto the mark, have drainage issues there was a rat in the room, the room service didn't bother to come inspite of making a call. the location is a big dampener.secluded bad roads, can't go out on yr own
I checked in Room 520 in The Chariot, Puri, Odisha on 28 December 2013 and left it on 29 December 2013. I had to attend a wedding at the Mayfair, where I usually stay while in Puri. This was my fourth visit to Puri. Going by the good reviews, the presentation by the hotel website, I had opted for this hotel as Mayfair Puri was fully booked I reached there after a great difficulty as the approach road the hotel was quite messy and sandy. I could never imagine that there could be a hotel so isolated and so far away from the main city. It is perhaps the last building and perhaps the southern-most hotel or even a building in Puri. It is said that it is nearly 12 years old hotel. I am surprised to know this because of its isolated location. Its distance from Puri beach is not less than 3-4 km. The nearest hotel (or nearest building) is not less than one km. But the positive of its being away from the crowded city is the peaceful and natural surroundings There was a large crowd in the hotel, which may be due to being last week of the year and non-availability of rooms in other hotels in the main city I fortunately got a room (Room No. 520), which had one visitors room, one master bed room with one balcony overlooking at the Pool below and sea beach, which was at some distance and two toilets The hotel has good building, good and spacious rooms still the hotel disappointed me because of its negatives narrated below. The staff at reception was helpful and courteous, the swimming pool seemed excellent, and the hotel not so far away from the isolated beach. The beach is so less crowded though that one will fear to venture on to the beach without being in a group The negatives included insufficient lighting in the room, no LCD or LED TV in the room (it had an old model 20 inch television set on which we could not read even the news headlines), no tea/coffee maker and we had to depend on room service which was pathetic (I ordered bed tea at around 7 am and it reached me at around 8 am and that too cold tea), old and smelly Almirah in the room, WiFi did not work in the room in the night (I had tried WiFi till 2 am; but when I got connected, thankfully the speed was excellent), no electronic safe, no mini bar in the room, no bathrobes and lastly and most importantly absence of Mobile network. If you do not have your own vehicle, it is very inconvenient location. The name of the hotel is The Chariot Resort and Spa, but the spa was missing (I was told that it was under renovation) Overall, not a good hotel for family outing, but could be a good hotel for groups I will suggest that one should not go only by what has been stated by the hotel at its website, but you must go through the reviews seriously and then decide to stay in this hotel
Over all experience was average. The pick up facility & check in facility was good. But the location is not as good as it was expected. Because there is no proper approach road or metal road to reach the resort from the town. Moreover, the area is so deserted and isolated, situated about 2 kms away from the main beach area that, one do not dare to take a walk also. This was also suggested by the desert facilitators not to take a walk with the family. Between the resort and the sea there is a small canal or extensuion of river, which one has to cross to go to the seabeach . . The cleanliness and maintenance is also a matter of concern. Room service was poor but the quality of food was good. The swimming pool was full of small biting insects. No changing facilities near the pool.
Best Experience: The infrastructure is very good. And walking along the rural road was also a good experience.
Worst Experience: Ordered for dinner at 22 15 hrs. and despite our reminding them twice in between, at 23 30 hrs. half menu was served and we were told that the remaining order was not available. However, they arranged for alternate dishes after that.
