Reasons to go to Punjab

1Baisakhi, Punjab
Baisakhi, Punjab

The history of Baisakhi begins with the martyrdom of Guru Teg Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru. Aurangzeb wanted to spread Islam throughout India and Guru Teg Bahadur stood for the rights of the Hindus and Sikhs and thus was publicly beheaded by Aurangzeb. After his death his son Guru Gobind Singh became the tenth Sikh Guru. In order to instill courage and strength among his fellow men, Guru Gobind Singh called on the historic Baisakhi Day congregation of Sikhs. The modern version of the festival marks the onset of spring and the founding of Khalsa brotherhood.

Rahul Sinha from Delhi talks about his stay at Best Western Merrion. He says: “Good hotel, luxuriant, extraordinary, nice location. Fine dining, buffet extraordinary, excellent service with on top of pleasing behaviour.”

When: 13th April 2016

Must visit place

I have visited so many times with my family but I always want to come again and again. It gives us a peace of mind when me and my family come to visit golden temple, and shows that everyone is equal in front of Guru. Golden temple has four doors which symbolise that people from four directions of the world either from North, South, east or west, people from all the religion either sikh, Hindu, Muslim or Christian, or from any cast or Creed are always welcome. And in langar everyone should sit in same row either from higher position or lower and eat the same food shows everyone is equal and all are sons of same god. And even bagha border is must visit and also should see the retreat and jalaian wala bagh also must see places. People who love spicy food Amritsar is must visit for them. Even you can buy world best pickles, vari, papad, and ofcourse chatni and also anybody can go for shopping so it's a Must visit place which really gives you the peace of mind and also make you to learn the lesson of equality

Punjab Overview

Punjab is situated in northwestern India. Though the present state covers a rather small area, earlier Punjab was a huge region spanning across the present Indo-Pakistan border. In 1947, at the time of India's independence from British rule, a large part of Punjab was handed over to Pakistan. In 1966, the Indian Punjab was again trifurcated into modern Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.   Punjab shares its borders on the west with Pakistan, on the north with Jammu and Kashmir, on the northeast with Himachal Pradesh and on the south with Haryana and Rajasthan. Sutlej and Beas are the main rivers of the state. Punjab can be geographically divided into two regions: the low hills of Shivalik in the north and the plain between Sutlej and Ghaggar rivers.   Punjab is one of the most prosperous states in India. Largely agricultural, it was the area where modern methods of agriculture pesticides, fertilizers, canal-irrigation and farm machinery were used in the 1960s and 1970s to increase crop yields, bringing about a 'Green Revolution'. Today, Punjab accounts for a large share of India's wheat, rice and milk production.   Punjab is the only state in India where followers of the Sikh religion are a majority. Pujabis are also known for their large-scale emigration to other parts of India and the world, especially to UK and Canada. Baisakhi, a harvest festival, is the most famous festival of Punjab, and Bhangra is its globally recognised dance.   Amritsar, the holy city of Sikhs, is famous for the Golden Temple the most venerated gurudwara of Sikhism. Anandpur Saheb and Tarn Taran are other important gurudwaras. The erstwhile princely state of Patiala is known for its 18th-century palaces, especially the Qila Mubarak. At Wagah near Amritsar, land crossing is allowed into Pakistan and people flock here to see the ostentatious 'changing-of-guard' ceremony by the soldiers of the two sides.
