Memorial and historical Place

One can see Independence Square from main road. Independence Square is also called the Independence
Memorial Hall. At our visit time the place was with medium crowd. It is small building and Independence Day is celebrated here. Actually, this majestic stone edifice commemorates Sri Lanka gaining its independence from the British Empire in 1948. The exact location is where Prince Henry, the Duke of Gloucester, opened Sri Lanka's first parliament on a special podium. Nowadays, the Independence Memorial Hall is mostly popular as a recreational venue for joggers, strolling couples, students from the nearby university and families looking for a refreshing reprieve from the urban mess of Colombo. One can visit this Historical place.

Amazingly maintained park

Independence square is an historical place. This is the place where official papers of Sri Lankan independence were handed over. 15-20 mins would be enough for this place. The park is maintained really very well. I was surprised to see the park. If you have spare time you can spend about half an hour just relaxing and enjoying the park. A lot of locals were found jaywalking even in the late evening time. The biggest surprise was that there is no entry fee and still it so well maintained.
