In the middle of History
You will need to read up a bit about the history of Hagia Sophia - the Byzantine Empire and Ottoman empire to truly understand the significance and grandeur of the Hagia Sophia. Its been one of my most memorable experiences
Great architecture and try the local Gozleme
Stunning a must visit. Hagia Sophia stands today as one of the world's greatest architectural marvels. Visit the Underground Cisterns alongside - they too are worth a visit. Some of the small eating joints will sell the famous local dish 'gozleme' - it is a pancake with cheese and spinach stuffing.
One of the key attractions of this old city. Architecturally interesting with some fine mosaics. Ongoing repairs of its interiors marred my photo-ops but I still managed to get some good photographs. You must visit the upper galleries. Rent an audio guide if you're interested in the details.
Take a ferry to reach
I took a ferry ride and was shown the bridge which divides Istanbul into Europe and ASEAN and all old palaces were shown. I did not pay any fee as it was included in the sightseeing tour costing 80 Euro.
