Ao Nang Beach in Krabi is where the party’s at. A place with lots of vibes, it is decked with social spots, guest houses and resorts that cater to a confluence of tourists from all over the world. One can spend time here and discover the surrounding attractions that make Krabi an alluring destination.

History

Thailand’s southern region of Krabi is arguably the oldest continuously inhabited area in the entire country. One of the twelfth Thai royal cities, Krabi’s earliest written records date back to 1200 AD. This modern town has its origin as an important 18th-century elephant kraal and with the tourism boom of the 1960s, grew into an important base for many recreational activities. One of the most popular spots in Krabi and a reason for many to visit is the bustling Ao Nang Beach.

Reason to Visit

A sleepy seaside settlement, Ao Nang was transformed by the arrival of backpackers and rock climbing enthusiast who came to explore the region’s iconic rock formations. The area then grew into the centre of Krabi’s tourism scene along with the main town.

Ao Nang is an ideal location to stay as it is close to all the activities in Krabi. Visitors can relax by the beach and watch the world go by while sipping on a refreshing beverage at one of the many waterholes of the beach. Being a seaside destination, there is no dearth of water activities around Ao Nang Beach. The pristine surroundings have many hidden spots where one can engage in some snorkelling and swimming.

Krabi’s famous nature trails are close to the beach. Visitors can enjoy moderate to extreme hikes in the surrounding hills and lush tropical groves. The Klai Wang Water Garden is only a 10-minute walk away and is a good way to get an introduction to Krabi’s inland natural wealth.

Ao Nang is also the best place where one can get a relaxing yet invigorating Thai massage on the beach. There are also many open-air spas for further pampering!

Entry Guideline

Known for its vibe and social scenery, the beach is 20 minutes away from Krabi town and is a perfect base for island hopping tours with many tour operators and long boats based here. There are buses that shuttle from the town to Ao Nang which charge around 150 baht per person. If you are travelling from the Krabi airport, then Ao Nang is a little less than an hour away. A private cab from the airport will cost you around 550 baht.

Where to Eat

Ao Nang Beach is a nerve centre of shopping and eateries where one can spend entire evenings sampling a diverse range of food just walking down the sandy strip. Visitors can enjoy Thai specials like pad thai and fresh seafood preparations. For those missing Indian food, there are lots of quality restaurants that serve the subcontinent’s favourites including vegetarian dishes, such as Tandoori Nights and Bombay Palace, to name a few.

Can spend hours on this beach

What a sculpture at Ao Nang Beach, it also have plenty of reasonable resorts at equally very reasonable prices. It is the place where longtail and speedy boats departs toward the uncountable amazing islands and remote beaches nearby, so you can use it as a basis for your tours. Also, Ao Nang is surrounded by numerous bars and restaurants at just walking distance. We liked spending time there in the evening and doing shopping.

The most visited beach

This is the most visited attraction of Krabi as most of the hotels and market are along this beach. The beach does not have a very good options of activities, but a ferry goes in the morning to other beaches like Phi Phi. You might get better options at other beach spots. This is good for hanging out in the evening, taking long beach walks and enjoy the waves.

Nice option near hotel

Beach was just from my hotel, is crowded, many shops nearby to get food drinks. Go during sunset time or early morning. During sunset it was very crowded. You can carry some isotonic drink if going in day time.

A simple beach to hang out

The Ao Nang is the most easily accessible beach in Krabi and is near to all the hotels and located near the road. It has a market on its marine drive. It has long boats to other islands as well. The water is clean but no activities are available here.

A clean beach

It is not easy to have a beach so clean just at the edge of a city but this one was so clean. Local people are there to serve you all the basic things needed to enjoy the beach. Also it is at a walking distance from almost all the hotels in Krabi.
